Chapter 9

While my Senior Brother and the Saintess were unconscious, I didn’t stay idle.

I rummaged through the Storage Pouches of the Spell Cultivator and the Saintess, naturally picking out the best items. It was no wonder everyone said the Taixu Illusion Realm was full of opportunities. Robbing a few people at random was worth more than selling a whole pack of Sword Cultivators.

I estimated there were still a few days left before the illusion realm closed. I really was unlucky, though-that Flood Dragon Inner Core had almost cost me my life. After weighing my options, my hunger for cultivation eventually overcame my moral constraints.

I found an Illusion Face Pill in the Saintess’s Storage Pouch and changed into a new set of clothes. Naturally, those were from her as well.

Looking at my completely transformed self, I nodded in satisfaction. I grabbed my short sword and headed out to find fellow cultivators who had entered the realm with us.

The Danmaku was already used to my lack of ethics:

[My condolences to any fellow cultivators who run into her.]

For three days straight, I built my fortune by robbing my peers. A terrifying rumor began to spread through the Taixu Illusion Realm: a Demon Cultivator had snuck in, and they were killing people for treasure and committing all sorts of atrocities.

Danmaku:

[Prejudice in the human heart is a mountain.]

[Demon Cultivators are safe, Sword Cultivators are well-behaved.]

Senior Brother woke up on the second day. Before he could question me about the Pill of Severed Feelings, I painfully parted with the Spell Cultivator’s Storage Pouch and tossed it to him.

Fortunately, even though Senior Brother followed the Path of Ruthlessness, he hadn’t forgotten his roots. Once he took the Storage Pouch, he stopped pressing the matter.

The Danmaku couldn’t help but empathize:

[You can tell Sword Cultivators are truly poor.]

When Senior Brother discovered my little business, his brow furrowed, and he opened his mouth to scold me. However, after seeing how stuffed my Storage Pouch was, he resolutely joined me.

The luck of a Child of Fortune was something an unlucky person like me couldn’t compete with.

We targeted a lone cultivator. Just as we were about to rob him, we saw him casting a spell and forming hand seals to open a hidden cave dwelling. Senior Brother and I were about to give chase when a soft whip wrapped around my waist.

The Saintess, now awake, looked at us with a dark expression. “Where do you think you’re running to?”

The cave’s formation was about to close, so there was no time for nonsense. Senior Brother and I exchanged a look and charged forward without a word. The Saintess gripped her whip tightly and was dragged into the cave with us.

“You guys…”

As soon as she spoke, I reached out and covered her mouth.

“Don’t blow our cover.”

Was it something to be proud of, shouting about such shady business?

I couldn’t tell which sect the lone cultivator belonged to. But as he cast his spells, I sensed something slightly off. Senior Brother hit the nail on the head: “It’s demonic energy.”

I had felt a bit guilty about framing a Demon Cultivator earlier, but who knew one had actually snuck in? Hearing the words ‘Demon Cultivator,’ the Saintess stopped struggling. After all, their reputation preceded them.

Tens of thousands of years ago, a maddened Demon Lord had emerged from the Demon Clan. Although he had been sealed by several Great Experts, he wasn’t entirely dead. The Demon Clan spent every day shouting slogans about resurrecting the Demon Lord and unifying the world. They had been restless for the past century. If they could even sneak into the Taixu Illusion Realm, it was clear they were plotting something big.
