Summary
I came to Northern Qiang as a palace maid in a princess’s wedding retinue. She was sent to marry the khan for peace, but her heart belongs to another man—and she refuses to share a barbarian’s bed. So she sends me instead. By day, I keep my head down. By night, I carry a secret that could cost us all our lives. Then the old khan dies, his sons contend for the throne, and the princess sees a chance to escape. She has an emperor for a father. We have no one to save us. Perhaps it is time we saved ourselves.
