The Rebellious Disciple Was Me All Along - Chapter 3
It was not that my will was weak.
The enemy was simply too cunning.
After all, even the coldest woman would struggle to remain calm when he was mortified beyond endurance yet still gritted his teeth and begged her to “touch me there.”
In that instant, the fierce drug in Ji Lanshuang’s body seemed to pass through our joined skin and set me ablaze as well.
My mind went blank. I forgot my identity and my mission. I forgot every vow I had ever made and even ignored the sudden pain in my chest.
The world became as vast as a storm-tossed sea, leaving me helplessly carried by the current.
And as small as a pair of gorgeous eyes inches from mine.
Their owner kept his lips pressed tight, unwilling to make a sound. Only when he truly could not bear it would he open his mouth to curse me.
He seemed to resist the act with all his being, yet time and again he rubbed against me, unable to stop.
Outwardly, he was insufferably arrogant.
In truth, he was wanton beyond belief.
…
When the clouds and rain finally subsided, an utterly spent Ji Lanshuang sank into a deep sleep.
Silently, I pulled the brocade quilt over him, concealing the ambiguous marks scattered across his body like stars.
Once I had dealt with those small details, I could no longer avoid the problem. I crouched beside the bed and coughed up the blood I had held back for hours.
Had I lost my mind?
I absolutely had, had I not?
As a spy with impeccable professional standards, why else would I entangle myself with my target—on his bed, no less?
Never mind how my lunatic mistress would react when she learned of this.
Consider Ji Lanshuang himself.
A coldhearted, vindictive wretch like him would never sympathize with my difficulties, much less thank me for saving him.
He would only feel humiliated and find a way to repay me a hundredfold.
At best, he would expel me from his tutelage. At worst, he would give me a vicious beating before throwing me out.
There were countless possibilities, but when I examined them closely, every last one said the same thing:
Get out.
Damn it.
Why had I failed to push him away?
Knowing Ji Lanshuang, however, the situation was not entirely beyond saving.
I had rescued him, after all. Even if my methods had been somewhat excessive, a little display of suffering might spare me from expulsion.
There was just one problem.
While I was purging the poison from Ji Lanshuang, either my emotions had run too high or my actions had been judged a betrayal of my mistress.
The gu worm implanted in my heart to control me suddenly thrashed and took a savage bite.
It was only a minor punishment and warning, but the injury struck a vital point. If mishandled, it could still kill me.
So much for playing the victim.
Not only could I not use my injury to win sympathy, I had to pretend nothing was wrong. Ji Lanshuang must never discover the internal wound.
If the gu worm was exposed, my identity as a deathsworn warrior would come to light with it.
In that case…
Why not do the opposite?
Instead of waiting for Ji Lanshuang to wake, disown what had happened, and throw me out in a fit of humiliated fury, I could leave first. I would avoid the worst of his anger and have time to recover in private.
By the time I healed, Ji Lanshuang’s rage would probably have cooled. As long as we tacitly agreed never to mention the incident, it could pass with ease.
Two birds with one stone.
I patted my left shoulder with satisfaction. “Xie Sui, you grow cleverer by the day.”
I left a brief handwritten letter beside Ji Lanshuang’s bed.
With utmost sincerity, I confessed that I understood the gravity of my sins and had therefore sentenced myself to get out and reflect for several days.
“Until Master has fully recovered, I will not return to offend your sight. Please recuperate in peace.”
Certain I had solved a monumental problem, I cheerfully packed my belongings.
Before Ji Lanshuang woke, I carried my bundle down the mountain in the dead of night and moved into the disciples’ quarters on the Immortal Sect’s main peak.
