Chapter 7

“In your dreams.”

I wasn’t the one who said it.

It was a voice that suddenly rang out from the doorway.

A figure in red stood there, like a dark fire that made it hard to breathe.

Li Shuheng didn’t look at anyone else. His gaze bypassed the crowd and landed straight on my face.

“Are you crying?”

I froze for a moment, instinctively raising my hand to wipe my eyes.

Sure enough, my fingertips came away wet.

Lin Xizhe watched this scene and actually managed to smile.

“How touching.”

“A test subject and an Observer, still circling each other after a thousand years.”

Only then did Li Shuheng turn to look at him.

“Your mouth is filthy.”

“I’m just stating facts.”

“As if you’re worthy of mentioning facts.”

The atmosphere tightened instantly.

It was the first time I had seen Li Shuheng radiate such heavy killing intent. It wasn’t the cold, rule-bound aura of a Dungeon Boss.

It was a genuine, visceral hatred-the desire to tear someone into a million pieces.

Lin Xizhe, however, didn’t seem panicked in the slightest.

“If you want to kill me, you can do it right now.”

“But killing me won’t change the fact that you’re about to lose control.”

“Do you think I enjoy watching you all get pinned down one by one?”

“But the Deep Well has opened. What about the consciousnesses out there that have already fallen in?”

“I tried to shut it down.”

“The result was that we couldn’t even preserve the last few echoes.”

He looked at me, his voice steady.

“Luo Tinglan, you know better than anyone.”

“His contamination is rising.”

“If we drag this out any longer, the Deep Well will tear a hole directly into reality, not just this one Instance.”

“When that happens, the death toll outside will be ten times higher than it is here.”

I said nothing.

Because half of what he said was true.

Li Shuheng had been leaving the Dean’s Office less and less over the past few days, and the red at the corners of his eyes had grown deeper.

Last night, I had even seen black cracks briefly surface on his back.

It was as if the rules were growing directly into his bones.

“So?” Jiang Yichuan asked coldly.

“So the optimal solution is simple.”

Lin Xizhe looked at me, emphasizing every word.

“Just like last time.”

“She will be the one to kill him.”

Ji Qingyan gasped. “Are you insane?”

“I am not.”

“I simply understand the cost better than you do.”

The room was terrifyingly quiet.

I felt as if the space in my chest was being repeatedly wrung out.

Li Shuheng, however, suddenly gave a low chuckle.

There wasn’t a hint of warmth in that laugh.

“The most disgusting thing about you is how you love to make choices for others.”

After saying that, he actually raised his hand and handed me that long, thin blade.

The hilt was as cold as frost.

“Here.”

I stared at him, my hand unmoving.

“What do you mean by this?”

“It means that this time, no one can force you.”

“If you want to kill me, then kill me.”

“If you don’t want to, no one will use you as their blade.”

“Li Shuheng!”

My voice was hoarse.

“Can you stop talking about yourself like you’re so insignificant?”

He looked at me, and the heavy darkness in his eyes suddenly softened a fraction.

“Because to you…”

“I could never be insignificant.”

Those words felt like a chisel striking my chest.

I gripped the knife, but not to kill him.

I had suddenly remembered.

Back then, the permissions I received didn’t just include ‘reset’.

There was also ‘separation’.”
