Summary
Su Yunxi arrives at the Marquis of Cheng’en’s household with a fortune in dowry trunks, a timid little son, and plans to set three troublesome stepchildren straight. Everyone has warned her about the scheming eldest girl, the willful second, and their supposedly unruly brother. Yet the children she meets seem far more frightened than fearsome, and the household accounts tell a different story. Between missing allowances, cold shoulders, and sharp tongues beyond the gates, Yunxi finds plenty to put right. She married for a practical arrangement. She hadn’t expected how hard it would become to walk away.
