The Villain Quits - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
My brother let out a low curse, his knuckles cracking as he clenched his fists. He pulled me behind him, ready to go over and have it out with her.
“What’s wrong with this person? Suisui, you stay hidden here. Your brother is going to go up there and show her a thing or two.”
I reached out to stop him, trying my best to remain calm.
“Don’t be impulsive.”
My brother seemed to realize something as well and halted his steps.
This wasn’t a situation that could be solved by hot-bloodedness alone.
If we couldn’t completely help Xie Yu’an escape his predicament, then an impulsive move now would only become a sword used against him in the future.
Not far away, the woman seemed to have finally vented her rage. She and Xie Yu’an walked away, one after the other.
“We need to plan this out properly. We’ll come up with a thorough plan and then-”
I turned back as I spoke, only to see my brother’s face turn deathly pale, his forehead dripping with cold sweat.
I jumped in surprise. Surely he wasn’t *that* angry?
My brother gave a weak twitch of his lips, his smile looking more painful than a sob.
“Sis… your brother got so mad just now that I… I stepped wrong.”
Me: “…”
Accompanied by my brother’s wails all the way home, a chaotic day finally came to an end.
In the middle of the night, my brother, who had been fast asleep, suddenly snapped his eyes open and shouted:
“That’s not right!”
He flipped over and sat up, hopping to my bedroom door and pounding on it.
“That’s not right at all! I had no idea Xie Yu’an was an orphan! How could I have discriminated against him? When did I ever call him a jinx or a loser? Shen Sui, get out here! Explain yourself!”
I rolled over and fell back into an even deeper sleep.
Xie Yu’an was indeed much colder toward us now.
Even though he wore the same expressionless face as before, I could sense the subtle differences.
For instance, the corners of his mouth were pressed tighter than usual, and his gaze was more restrained.
I observed him with interest for a while, staring until Xie Yu’an became visibly uncomfortable, filling in several ‘C’s in his fill-in-the-blank questions.
Only then did I give my brother a meaningful look.
My brother immediately strolled over with a swagger, tapped on Xie Yu’an’s desk, and pointed toward a teaching building outside the window.
“See that building?”
My brother arched an arrogant eyebrow.
“Back in tenth grade, I got into a fight with a thug who was collecting protection money at school. My mom donated that one.”
He shifted his finger and pointed to another one.
“That one was from eleventh grade, when I thrashed an old scumbag who tried to lay a hand on a girl. And that one over there…”
After my brother finished prattling on about his combat record, he threw his head back and laughed loudly. “Now you know how formidable I am, right? Hahahaha!”
I silently covered my face with my hand.
My brother’s acting was terrible!
It was the kind of terrible where if he entered the entertainment industry for one day, anti-fans would dig up his ancestral grave!
However, as bad as it was, it worked.
Xie Yu’an relaxed visibly, no longer as tense as he had been.
Just as I breathed a sigh of relief, I heard Xie Yu’an speak.
“Last night… did you two see something?”
I practically launched out of my seat like a rocket.
“No, no, no, no!”
Fine.
My acting was just as bad as my brother’s.
“Okay, we saw it.”
I lowered my head, fidgeting with my fingers.
“I’m sorry, we didn’t mean to eavesdrop. And don’t worry, we definitely aren’t mocking you. We were just thinking… if there’s anything we can do to help…”
Xie Yu’an looked stunned, a hint of bewilderment in his eyes as if he didn’t know how to respond. Finally, he managed a dry:
“It’s okay.”
My eyes lit up, and I grabbed Xie Yu’an’s hand tightly.
“Then do you want to leave that home? We’ve already come up with a meticulous plan! We can definitely help you!”
Perhaps he was scorched by the light in those eyes.
Or perhaps he was soaked through by the warmth radiating from her hand.
By some strange impulse, Xie Yu’an wanted to believe those words unconditionally.
He said:
“Okay.”
