Chapter 105

Qin Xuan followed Jiang Yu’s gaze and looked at Sheng An.

He was a very likable child, with round, pitch-black eyes that were innocent and clear. His little face was white, tender, and chubby like a bun. He was incredibly cute; most people couldn’t help but smile when he looked at them.

Qin Xuan stared at Sheng An without blinking.

Sheng An didn’t say a word. Compared to the tension the others were feeling, she was quite calm, seemingly lacking any excessive curiosity about her own future.

One minute, two minutes… five minutes passed.

Qin Xuan remained silent.

The group’s initial tension gradually turned into confusion.

Li Xin laughed in frustration. “What Prophecy Ability? You old geezer, you’re just trying to scam us for free food and drinks!”

The old man looked a lot like a weasel; he certainly didn’t look like a good person.

Jiang Yu was equally suspicious.

Was the old man really a fraud?

This guy used to be a fake fortune teller… he was definitely capable of pulling something like this.

Just as she was about to speak, the usually quiet Qi Lingwu suddenly said, “Wait.”

He rarely spoke, but when he did, he instantly commanded attention.

Looking back at the other side, Sheng An was also staring intently at Qin Xuan.

Wu Buyu looked blankly at the child Li Xin was holding. When he saw him clearly, his pupils constricted.

Qin Xuan’s eyes were bloodshot, and two drops of bloody tears were seeping from the corners of his eyes!

His expression was contorted, as if he had fallen into endless agony.

What was happening?!

Before Li Xin could react, Old Man Qin snatched Qin Xuan back and held him tight. He covered the boy’s dark eyes with his rough, aged hand, his tone grave.

“Xuanxuan, if you can’t see it, don’t look!”

Qin Xuan’s youthful voice trembled. “Grandpa, I saw it…”

Old Man Qin pursed his lips and moved his hand down from the boy’s eyes to cover his mouth.

Li Wanyun frowned. “What are you doing?”

Old Man Qin’s lips twitched into a forced smile. “From the perspective of fortune-telling, there are some people you just shouldn’t look at. Even if you see something, it’s best to pretend you didn’t…”

He stole a couple of glances at Sheng An from the corner of his eye. His weasel-like eyes darted around, not daring to meet her gaze.

Sheng An watched the two of them, her eyes narrowing slightly.

After a long moment, she said, “Since you saw it, speak.”

The old man felt awkward and had no choice but to let go.

Qin Xuan was in a bad state. His eyes were tightly shut, and the bloody tears had left two red streaks down his face. Most concerning was his emotional state; he seemed trapped in a state of infinite suffering.

After Old Man Qin let go, Qin Xuan began to murmur like he was in a trance-

“There’s nothing left. Wasteland, darkness, disaster, blood, dead people… She’s holding… holding I don’t know what… staggering across the pitted ground… She says, it’s wrong, it’s all wrong…”

Qin Xuan began to struggle frantically.

“Xuanxuan!” Old Man Qin cried out in panic.

Li Xin and the others also frowned, their expressions full of worry.

Qin Xuan continued to struggle, his small legs kicking desperately and his hands clawing at the air. Suddenly, he snapped his blood-red eyes open and screamed-

“She’s walking back!”

As the words left his mouth, Qin Xuan fainted completely.

Sheng An leaped over the table to the other side and caught Qin Xuan. She checked his body and eyes, her frown deepening. She handed him over to Long Tianyu.

“Take him to the hospital,” she said, her voice raspy.

Long Tianyu took the boy and vanished in the blink of an eye.

The hospital was within a kilometer; he would be back in no time.

Old Man Qin looked around blankly. “Where’s my grandson?”

Hao Jingye comforted him. “He’s been sent to the hospital. Don’t worry, the camp hospital currently houses the best doctors in the country, along with countless researchers. Nothing will happen to Qin Xuan.”

Old Man Qin breathed a sigh of relief.

Li Xin frowned, looking bewildered. “What did he mean by that? What exactly did he see?”

At this point, no one questioned Qin Xuan’s ability anymore.

Though he was young, he was indeed a Superpower User.

Li Wanyun shook her head.

Wu Buyu swallowed hard. “I was right next to Qin Xuan just now. I heard his inner thoughts…”

“What?” Everyone turned to look at him.

Wu Buyu sighed. “Pain, misery, despair, madness.”

Everyone froze.

Song Linwei murmured, “Can a three-year-old child even feel such emotions? To feel them all in an instant… it must have come from the images he saw…”

He looked at Sheng An with a complicated gaze.

Gu Qiansheng recalled Qin Xuan’s words and repeated them. “He said there’s nothing left. He must be referring to this world. Wasteland, darkness, disaster, blood, dead people-that is the state of the world.”
“Sister Sheng was stumbling through a scorched world, clutching something in her arms and muttering ‘Wrong, it’s all wrong.’ What could that mean?”

Hao Jingye shook his head.

Qi Lingwu said, “Qin Xuan’s last line-‘She walked back’-those five characters should be crucial.”

Ji Yani nodded, her face full of confusion.

Jiang Yu sighed. “He seemed to say a lot, but it just made things more confusing. There’s nothing we can read from it.”

Old Man Qin sighed and raked a hand through his messy hair, his voice weary.

“See? What’s the use of a Prophecy? No one can understand things they haven’t been through. If you ask me, just let Xuanxuan take a look at whether anyone’s going to die-that’s about enough.”

Long Tianyu appeared at their side.

The rushed Flashes had thrown his breathing off, and sweat slicked his forehead.

“How is he?” Old Man Qin asked at once.

Long Tianyu shook his head. “He’s fine. His Supernatural Ability is exhausted. The check shows low blood sugar, and the reaction looks about the same as when a Supernatural Ability is exhausted. The doctors and nurses will take care of Qin Xuan and run a full exam while they’re at it.”

Anyone who joined the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department had to undergo a full-body exam.

It also provided data for research.

Only then did Old Man Qin let out a long breath and pat his chest. “That scared me to death. Thank goodness he’s okay.”

“So what’s going on with Sister Sheng, then?” Liu Yue asked, at a loss.

Everyone else shook their heads, just as bewildered.

They’d finished eating ages ago. Sheng An lifted a hand. “That’s enough. Time’s tight-everyone get back to what you should be doing.”

After speaking, she turned and headed out.

Qi Lingwu followed.

Once they left the cafeteria, he gently took her hand and gave it a calming pat.

Sheng An smiled faintly. “I’m fine. It’s just a Prophecy that’s vague and hard to pin down-it may not mean anything. Besides…”

She tilted her head, laughter in her eyes. “Doesn’t that prove I won’t die?”

In their earlier guesses-

There had been no information about Sheng An in the previous life, so there’d been a strong chance she died on the very day the apocalypse hit, or she turned into an Aberrant and got killed by someone else.

But in Qin Xuan’s Prophecy, in that scorched world, she was still alive.

Qi Lingwu smiled too.

Hand in hand, they walked on. Sheng An rubbed her chin. “Still, I’m a little curious what ‘She walked back’ means. Back to where?”

Qi Lingwu shook his head. “We’ll ask him when he wakes up.”

*

Doomsday countdown: 4 days.

Hao Jingye burst out of his room, voice urgent. “Where’s Sister Sheng?!”

“Qin Xuan’s awake. Sister Sheng and Qi Dui already went over,” Li Wanyun said, puzzled. “What’s up?”

Long Tianyu Flashed in, looking equally curious.

Hao Jingye said, “Sparks from outside our area are extremely rare. Since the National Announcement Briefing, other than Qin Xuan and Nie Changsui, there have only been two-and they’re very likely the last two who awakened early.”

Sparks who had awakened early would, in most cases, contact the state right after the National Announcement Briefing.

But from yesterday to the end of today, only a handful had reached out. That probably meant there were only a few Sparks left.

Li Wanyun murmured, “That’s really strange. Why are there so few from other regions?”

Long Tianyu looked at Hao Jingye, confused. “So?”

Hao Jingye raised his voice. “One Verbal Spell Ability User and one hair Mutant-what do you think?”

Li Xin bolted for the door, face lit up. “Holy shit-of course we go grab them now!”

Li Wanyun caught him and smiled. “You should be heading out on your mission with Wu Buyu. This has nothing to do with you-especially not grabbing Superpower Users.”

Long Tianyu pinned Li Xin down and looked to Hao Jingye. “Where are they? This time I’ll go grab them myself.”

Hao Jingye said, “They just got to Building 1.”

Long Tianyu Flashed away immediately.

Li Wanyun hurried after him, leaving a line behind her: “I’m going too. Long Tianyu isn’t exactly reliable-I need to keep an eye on him!”

Li Xin fumed. “Last time I just didn’t ask clearly! Now that the Supernatural Abilities have been made public and everyone’s here, who wouldn’t know we should grab that Verbal Spell Ability User?!”

Hao Jingye stared in the direction the two had vanished and fell into Silence.

Combat power-wise, he wasn’t worried.

But…

Could he really trust those two?
