Chapter 112

At those words, everyone shuddered. A chill ran up their spines and into their scalps, leaving them covered in goosebumps.

Lou Mingwei was so startled he nearly dropped his bowl.

He stammered, “Y-y-you, speak clearly. How do you know?”

Long Tianyu pursed his lips, his voice dry.

“The location in the portrait… it’s possible that through Qin Xuan’s narration, the artists couldn’t draw it perfectly, and Qin Xuan might not have described it with total precision. But…”

He swallowed hard, his voice growing even raspier. “Just looking at this picture, it looks very much like the place where I died in the second year of the Apocalypse. A place filled with many Aberrants. However, the scene I saw back then was much better than this portrait. The state of the world shown in this drawing is at least another two or three years further along.”

Everyone sucked in a cold breath.

Two or three years!

In previous analyses, the Reborn People and the Superpower Users who awakened early had always used the end of the second year of the Apocalypse as the dividing line.

They had many theories. For example, that ‘He’ had only given them two years of memories.

Or perhaps something catastrophic happened at the end of the second year that destroyed the world, meaning even those who lived the longest in their previous lives only made it to that point.

But now-

This drawing was conveying information from much further in the future!

Hao Jingye pressed, “Which place?”

Long Tianyu replied, “Shi City.”

Everyone took another deep breath.

Shi City was a very special place.

Like Jing City, it was a high-density Spark region. The first two Aberrants had also appeared in Shi City. In the past-life memories of Li Wanyun and Long Tianyu, Shi City had been completely destroyed by a meteorite.

Li Wanyun shook her head violently, utterly perplexed. “But neither my memories nor Long Tianyu’s include Sister Sheng.”

If Sheng An was a powerhouse who lived more than three years into the Apocalypse, why had she never heard of her in her previous life?

One had to realize that Qiu Yu, Long Tianyu, Wu Buyu, Gu Qiansheng… these powerhouses had all died at the end of the second year. Just how much strength would it take to survive another two or three years?

That was an Apocalypse where the danger grew heavier with every passing day.

Gu Qiansheng added, “Your memories didn’t include Qi Dui or Team 0 either.”

Only after coming into contact with Team 0 did they realize how strong they were.

And Qi Dui went without saying; he was a top-tier expert who had already awakened a Psychic Ability: King’s Anchor!

If their memories lacked Qi Dui and other powerhouses, it wasn’t hard to understand why they lacked her as well.

Song Linwei’s voice was heavy. “Furthermore, we analyzed this before-it’s not guaranteed that there isn’t something wrong with your memories…”

The group’s frowns deepened.

“Do you think… this Prophecy is about the past life? Or the future?” Li Wanyun suddenly asked.

“There was a rewinding process, so there’s a high probability it’s your past life,” Hao Jingye said, shaking his head. “But it doesn’t matter. Whether it’s the past life or the future, it’s a predicament Sister Sheng will face, and what she faces is what we-what all of humanity-will face.”

As if thinking of something, he suddenly looked at Wu Buyu.

“Li Wanyun, Long Tianyu, in the Apocalypse from your memories, did most of your information channels come from Wu Buyu’s Apocalypse Gazette?”

Li Wanyun and Long Tianyu nodded in unison.

Then, as if realizing something, the two of them looked at Wu Buyu suspiciously.

Ji Yani slapped her thigh. “So, in their memories of the past life, Wu Buyu might have known Sister Sheng and Qi Dui, and perhaps even suppressed information about them?”

Her eyes brightened as she spoke, her voice rising. “Yes! Don’t forget that Wu Buyu’s Mind Reading is ineffective against Sister Sheng!”

Hao Jingye added, “We can’t rule out that possibility.”

“That makes a lot of sense. If I couldn’t read Sister Sheng’s heart, I would definitely follow her lead,” Wu Buyu said with a slight smile. “However, I am not a Reborn Person. I don’t know anything.”
Jiang Yu clutched her head in frustration. “Dammit! Why aren’t you a Reborn Person too?”

As the “Apocalypse’s top paparazzo,” Wu Buyu possessed more information than anyone else. Unfortunately, he had no memories of the Apocalypse; he had simply awakened his powers ahead of schedule.

For a moment, everyone fell back into silence.

Qin Xuan’s Prophecy didn’t look very auspicious, but it did convey a wealth of information:

First: Sheng An survives for three years into the Apocalypse, only to encounter something that causes her to break and go mad.

Second: Sheng An definitely possesses a powerful Supernatural Ability. Based on certain inferences, she might be able to break through in a new direction once her Supernatural Ability awakens and its nature is determined.

Third: Shi City is very important, as is the unknown “orb” in Sheng An’s hand in the image.

Fourth: Things don’t look good for Qi Dui…

Fifth: Whatever happens in the future to turn Sheng An into the person in that painting must be truly horrific.

These five points of information contained both good and bad news.

However, the bad news completely overshadowed the good.

Old Man Qin was right about one thing: this painting was like a “predetermined ending of despair.” A Prophecy spoke of what was to come-a future that seemed set in stone.

If this Prophecy depicted the previous life of a Reborn Person, it would be difficult to change the outcome without knowing the cause.

If this Prophecy depicted the future of the current timeline, things were even worse.

Long Tianyu’s heart felt heavy.

He let out a soft sigh. “The Meteorite Catastrophe, the disaster that destroyed the world, and everything we’re seeing now… it all seems to be telling us that no matter how we struggle, it’s all in vain.”

He felt somewhat discouraged.

Those who hadn’t been reborn might not understand, but Long Tianyu and Li Wanyun exchanged a look, both seeing despair in the other’s eyes.

They had worked hard enough in their previous lives.

Yet they had only lasted two years.

Such powerful abilities, such grueling struggles, and all it bought them was two extra years of life.

If the ending was already predetermined, were they really going to repeat it all over again?

Would it be easier to just die on the day the world ended?

Sheng An, the central figure of the Prophecy and the symbol of that desperate ending, suddenly let out a low chuckle.

Everyone was startled.

Every pair of eyes turned toward her.

The smile on Sheng An’s lips became more pronounced. She turned to the man beside her and tilted her head. “Qi Dui, Li Xin has gotten quite good with his Metal Ability. How about we have him create some unique metals and build you a completely different Sniper Rifle?”

Qi Lingwu froze.

Thanks to their years of rapport, he suddenly understood what Sheng An meant.

Then, Qi Lingwu gave a small smile. He handed the gun to Sheng An and nodded. “Okay.”

This Sniper Rifle, which had never left his side, was a reward from the state. It represented the glory of his past twenty-plus years.

But glory was etched in one’s bones, not in external objects.

At this moment, the gun had a more important value.

Without hesitation or regret, Qi Lingwu handed it over.

“Sister Sheng?” Jiang Yu asked, utterly confused.

Then, under everyone’s bewildered gazes, Sheng An stood up. Without a moment’s hesitation, she bent down and slammed the gun violently against the ground. She put every ounce of strength into her arm, the force of the movement kicking up a gust of wind that ruffled her clothes.

*Crack-*

The hardened gun was violently destroyed.

Everyone stood frozen, staring at her blankly.

Holding the ruined weapon, Sheng An slowly straightened her back. Her body was like a pine tree standing tall on a cliffside-tough and unyielding. She gave everyone a small smile, her features blooming like a flower on a precipice.

Her voice was laced with a smile, yet it remained calm and composed:

“Now that the gun from the Prophecy is gone, who says the future is set in stone?”
