Chapter 113

Even if this was a game with a predetermined ending, she would never admit defeat.

If she fell, the millions of lives behind her would fall too.

An entire planet, thousands of years of history, and the civilization of countless generations rested on her shoulders.

The spear was destroyed, but who was to say the future was unsolvable?

Sheng An stood there. At five-foot-seven, she was relatively short among the group of Superpower Users, but at this moment, she was like a towering mountain-the stubborn will of this planet and this nation.

As the center of the Prophecy, she felt no fear; she would only forge ahead.

“Alright, today’s analysis ends here. Hao Jingye, report the information. Everyone else, to your stations. Prepare for the arrival of the apocalypse.” Sheng An’s lips curled into a slight smile as she waved her hand, composed and calm.

With that, she turned to leave.

With the broken spear in one hand and Qi Lingwu’s hand in the other, her retreating figure remained elegant and indestructible.

Long Tianyu clutched his chest, and after a long silence, he managed to spit out a single word: “Fuck.”

So cool!

A surge of adrenaline rushed to their heads. The original feelings of despair and loneliness were swept away, replaced by an endless fighting spirit.

What was there to fear?

If they were destined to die, then they would give it their all while they were still alive.

Besides, the spear was gone. No one could dictate their ending anymore.

Hao Jingye packed up his things and strode after her. “Alright, let’s get to work.”

Every member of Group B stood up and followed Sheng An.

After they left, only the members of Group A remained in the cafeteria, having been too preoccupied with the analysis to eat.

Ruan Zifeng grabbed Lou Mingwei, his voice trembling with excitement. “Holy shit, Sister Sheng is so badass!”

She hadn’t said much or done anything extraordinary, but she had him seeing stars.

If her partner wasn’t Qi Lingwu, he would have definitely tried his luck with her.

Lou Mingwei nodded almost instinctively.

Then, suddenly snapping back to his senses, he stiffened his neck. “What are you doing? You’re in Group A! You’re not allowed to call her ‘Sister Sheng,’ and you’re definitely not allowed to praise her!”

She was the leader of Group B, and they were Group A.

Ruan Zifeng choked on his words.

Jiang Ling’s mouth twitched. She stroked her hair and said indifferently, “So what if he praised her? Team Leader Sheng is indeed very badass. Team Leader Qiu has never stopped us from admiring Team Leader Sheng.”

“Traitor!” Lou Mingwei said resentfully.

Jiang Ling’s gaze darkened. “Say that again?”

Lou Mingwei kept his neck stiff. “I said you’re a traitor. You’re always plucking your own hair; it’s annoying as hell.”

As he spoke, he provocatively reached out and flicked Jiang Ling’s hair.

Then, he pulled one out.

“Ah-!” Jiang Ling screamed.

As a former beautiful programmer who had struggled with balding, her hair was incredibly precious to her. Every single strand was numbered; losing even one was heartbreaking.

Pulling her hair was no different from desecrating her ancestral graves or cutting off her head.

Jiang Ling lunged at him. “I’m going to kill you!”

Ruan Zifeng sighed helplessly. “Just eat quickly so we can get to work.”

He turned around and noticed that everyone in Group A was lost in thought.

Some were thinking about what had just happened, some were trying to stop Lou Mingwei and Jiang Ling from fighting, and even Xiang Hanshuang was staring blankly in the direction Sheng An had left…

Ruan Zifeng vaguely remembered something.

Had Xiang Hanshuang chosen Group A specifically because Sheng An didn’t have a Supernatural Ability?

Her current state of mind was likely very complicated…

***

Doomsday countdown: 1 day.

It was a busy day. Everyone in the country was in motion.

The relocation efforts were fully completed. Everyone was packed into various shelters, following the principle of remaining in the nearest available facility.
Even the most remote mountainous areas were gradually evacuated following the National Announcement Briefing. The city evacuations moved a step slower, but over these five days, the entire nation threw itself into disaster prevention and construction. Step by step, the whole country and its people followed the established protocols.

More shelters were built than originally planned, serving as backups.

Jing City was a known safe zone, and it had taken in almost all the residents from the surrounding areas that were on the verge of falling. In times of peace, such overcrowding and massive movement would likely have sparked chaos.

But tomorrow was the apocalypse. Compared to other countries, the people here could still take refuge in an organized and arranged manner. Everyone felt nothing but gratitude and a desire to cooperate; why would anyone cause trouble?

Over the past few days, several international incidents had broken out. In quite a few countries, chaos had already erupted even before the meteors arrived.

The orderly state of affairs within the country was something few other nations in the world could achieve. At this moment, the domestic population had no mental energy to spare for the chaos abroad. When surviving was already this difficult, who had the leisure to worry about others?

By nightfall, almost everyone had entered the shelters. Amidst the noise and bustle, people stayed close to their families, filled with trepidation and fear.

This was only a temporary residence, yet it was the most important place in their lives.

Because it was here that they would face the arrival of the meteors.

Every shelter was equipped with televisions.

They weren’t broadcasting soothing entertainment news or speeches from leaders. Instead, they played the temporary shelter rules, tomorrow’s schedule, and the response protocols for twelve different emergency scenarios on a loop.

The broadcast repeated endlessly, ensuring every person remembered the details clearly.

Armed patrols walked back and forth, constantly monitoring for any changes in the crowd, while staff members wove through the masses to distribute supplies and maintain order.

As the Core Shelter, the facility remained brightly lit throughout the night.

All members of the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department had returned. Li Xin had arrived that morning and spent the entire day resting in his room to recover his Supernatural Ability. The government officials were so busy throughout the day and night that they couldn’t stop for a moment, yet no one disturbed the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department.

This was a day for them to conserve their strength and prepare.

On the roof of the villa.

Sheng An and Qi Lingwu sat together, the scene bearing a striking resemblance to a few days prior.

She looked up at the sky.

It was still pitch black, but everyone knew that in the heights they couldn’t see, a swarm of meteors was hurtling toward the planet.

There were eleven hours left.

They only had three hours of relative ease remaining. In the final eight hours, they would have to be at their designated posts.

Qi Lingwu held her hand, saying nothing.

Sheng An withdrew her gaze. She took Qi Lingwu’s hand and pressed it against her forehead, her expression calm.

Qi Lingwu was taken aback.

Immediately, with his palm pressed against Sheng An’s forehead, he furrowed his brows. “You have a fever again.”

It was still a low-grade fever. Since Sheng An first developed a fever six days ago, it had been intermittent; she had run a fever almost every day. The camp hospital had checked her twice, but everything appeared normal, and they couldn’t find any underlying issues.

Yet Qi Lingwu’s eyes were full of worry.

Sheng An had mostly recovered from the injuries she sustained six days ago, but the fever persisted, proving it was unrelated to her wounds.

And if she were awakening a Supernatural Ability, there had been no progress for a long time. Instead, she just cycled through fever, recovery, and fever again…

It was very different from the awakenings in the memories of Li Wanyun and Long Tianyu.

How could he not be worried?

Sheng An’s voice was soft, yet certain. “I think I must be awakening a Supernatural Ability, but-it might be a little different.”
