This was a city in ruins. Collapsed buildings and swirling ash were everywhere, with fires still burning in many places. It looked exactly like a landscape ravaged by war.

The ground was scorched black, and thick smoke billowed into the air.

Behind a collapsed wall stood three people. They stood there quietly, as if they couldn’t even smell the dense smoke.

One of them, a middle-aged woman, frowned. “Where are the others?”

A man in his twenties shook his head and replied, “Could they have been killed? Those Superpower Users from the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department might have already reached the C9 Shelter.”

Another middle-aged man sneered. “If they’re dead, they’re dead. It just means they were incompetent.”

The young man countered, “Qiu, don’t underestimate the people from the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department. And don’t forget the Shi City incident. Three High-level Aberrants were all killed. If any of us ran into them, we’d be dead too.”

He was clearly wary of those people.

Qiu took a deep breath and stopped arguing. Even if he considered himself strong, he knew very well that he was still far from being on the level of those three who had died.

The woman gritted her teeth. “We aren’t waiting any longer. We’re taking the Energy Source and leaving now, or we might not get away at all!”

Just as they began to leave, the sound of stumbling footsteps rang out.

The three froze. Almost instinctively, the woman used her power to conceal their presence.

A youth appeared.

He didn’t have the scent of human blood on him. His eyes shone with a golden light, and his face was pale and so badly bruised that his original features were unrecognizable.

He muttered to himself, “Why is there nothing here?”

Hearing this, the woman revealed the three of them.

Qiu stared at the youth, his gaze suspicious. “Who are you? I’ve never seen you before.”

The youth gave a friendly smile and scratched his head, replying sheepishly, “My name is Daigua. I was hiding among the humans before. When the fighting started earlier, I came to help.”

His words were nonsensical, making the three of them frown.

The youth didn’t seem to notice. As if remembering something, he hurriedly fumbled in his pocket.

Two silver-white Fragments hit the ground.

He stammered, “Th-they’re dead. They were killed by that… that Winged Guy. He gave me these and told me to find you.”

The three frowned.

What kind of moron was this? He couldn’t even express himself clearly!

However, they managed to piece it together-their companions had been ambushed and killed by that birdman, and they had handed the Fragments to the boy so he could escape with them.

The three stared fixedly at the Fragments on the ground, their eyes filled with greed.

The youth had already picked them up.

The woman told the boy to keep them mainly because the three of them couldn’t split two pieces evenly. She wanted them for herself, but she knew the other two would never let her have them.

The young man was more sensitive; he felt something was off.

He looked the boy up and down, but indeed sensed nothing unusual. After a moment’s thought, he asked, “What’s your name? How did you escape from the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department? They aren’t simple at all. Also, who gave you the Energy Source?”

He stared intently at him, trying to find any flaws in the boy’s eyes or his answer.

The boy replied, “My name is Daigua.”

The expressions of the three darkened instantly.

The four of them stopped, panting for breath.

The young man let out a sigh. “We finally escaped.”

They ran all the way to the foot of a distant mountain. A Great Fire had consumed the entire peak; the raging flames burned brightly, illuminating the sky. They stood at the base of the mountain, right beside the Great Fire.

The woman took a deep breath and blew a Whistle Signal into the flames.

Qiu and the young man were exhausted and sat on the ground, gasping for air.

The young man smiled. “We completed the mission perfectly this time. We snatched so many Energy Sources and even shook off those guys from the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department. Hahaha!”

Qiu gave a cold laugh. “I didn’t see them being all that strong.”

He licked his lips, his voice bloodthirsty. “One day, when I’m powerful enough, I’ll kill them all and drink their blood. I wonder how sweet it will be…”

The young man laughed as well, and even the woman relaxed.
