Chapter 180

Li Xin felt very wronged. “I just finished an infiltration mission! I hid among a pack of Aberrants all by myself, risking my life to finally make it back. Instead of admiring me, you guys actually hit me…”

Everyone looked at him expressionlessly.

Li Xin wailed, “I’m so miserable! I barely escaped with my life, and this is how I’m treated? Waaaah!”

Li Wanyun remained deadpan. “You have an Indestructible Body. You can’t die.”

Ji Yani added coldly, “You’ve already broken through to Six-Star. Could those Two or Three-Star Aberrants even kill you?”

Zhang Kun said quietly, “To put it bluntly, even if you were in danger, Sister Sheng had people following you the whole time, ready to support you at any moment.”

Zhuang Fan nodded. “Mm.”

Wu Buyu translated: “He says you should stop faking it. You nearly drove those Aberrants crazy. How was that a narrow escape? You were clearly having the time of your life.”

Li Xin wasn’t embarrassed at all by being called out. He simply curled his lip and began rummaging through Qin Xuan and Jiang Yu’s snacks.

He had suffered during this period; he was starving for something good.

Seeing this, Jiang Yu didn’t say anything. She simply pulled a bowl of cherries out of her Space Ability and tossed them to him.

Li Wanyun took some beef jerky out of her own Space Ability and threw it his way as well, averting her gaze with a look of utter disdain.

Li Xin caught them, grinning widely.

As expected, life in the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department was the most comfortable.

Even though his teammates had sharp tongues, they still treated him well.

Hao Jingye rolled his eyes, ignoring their antics.

He continued speaking to Sheng An about serious matters. “It’s a bit strange. In this Cleansing Operation, aside from the Triple-Type High-level Aberrant we encountered, only Team Leader Qiu ran into one in the Northeast.”

Sheng An had already reported the solution. Although Qiu Yu had encountered a Blood Pool Aberrant, she hadn’t suffered for it. After collecting the Fragments, she found a way to pull the Blood Pool Aberrant out of the Blood Pool’s range and successfully eliminated it.

“So there were only two?” Song Linwei’s expression turned serious.

Hao Jingye replied, “Only two have been discovered.”

After a pause, he analyzed, “We can’t rule out the possibility that it’s difficult for a Blood Pool Aberrant to meet the necessary conditions, meaning their numbers are actually low. But we also can’t rule out the possibility that there are still Blood Pool Aberrants hiding.”

Long Tianyu tilted his chin up and sneered. “Now that we know how to deal with them, even if there are more, they won’t be hard to handle.”

Gu Qiansheng shook his head in disagreement.

“Don’t forget, that Triple-Type Aberrant reached Five-Star so quickly. Although Group A and Group B both have Six and Seven-Star Superpower Users, if there really are Blood Pool Aberrants hiding, there’s no guarantee they won’t quietly reach Six or Seven-Star themselves.”

Everyone’s hearts sank at those words.

Sheng An looked out the window. It was gradually getting dark. They were currently stationed at the border of the Southwest. Any further, and they would officially step into the Southwest territory.

“What do the higher-ups say?” She retracted her gaze and looked at Hao Jingye.

Hao Jingye pushed up his glasses. “The higher-ups want us to continue into the Southwest Region to complete the mission.

“The Nation will continue the Cleansing Operation. Blood Pool Aberrants rely on Blood Pools. As long as we clear out all Aberrant Gathering Places and the Shelters strictly monitor casualties, we can root out as many hidden Aberrant strongholds as possible.”

He paused before adding, “Don’t worry. Compared to knowing nothing, we’ve already cleared out the hidden Aberrants.

“Those Aberrants who relied on the Blood Pools to rapidly increase their strength have been slain. There will be a relatively peaceful period outside. We just need to get out as quickly as possible.”

Sheng An nodded, not surprised.

Hao Jingye continued, “Sister Sheng, once we enter the Southwest Region, there is a high probability we will lose contact the moment we step inside. Just like B11, the entire Southwest might be under the influence of the Fragments, forming an isolated space.”

The Nation would handle the Aberrants hiding in the darkness, trying to develop in secret.
Their focus needed to be on Group B’s mission-the crisis in the Southwest and the Healing Type Superpower User.

“The higher-ups are asking if we need any more Supplies? Or personnel?” Hao Jingye looked toward her.

If stepping into the Southwest meant losing contact, they had to be prepared in advance.

The Nation was very concerned about their safety. Whatever Sheng An needed, the Nation would provide full cooperation.

Hearing this, Sheng An shook her head. “No need. Our team is well-rounded. The Cleansing Operation isn’t completely over yet, and the Nation needs people too.”

All of Group B was present, and they were even bringing Jiang Yu along.

If they asked for more people, they could only request members from Group A. After all, the newly awakened Superpower Users weren’t strong enough yet to play a significant role.

But Sheng An preferred to have Group A remain stationed outside.

Even in a relatively peaceful period, it wasn’t as if there were no threats at all.

Besides…

If they were trapped in the Southwest, with Group A holding the fort, the Aberrants wouldn’t be able to turn the world upside down.

Hao Jingye nodded and replied to the higher-ups.

Once he finished his reply, he received a new message from above.

The moment he saw the message, he froze slightly, looking surprised.

At the same time, Wan Yuan’s voice rang in his ear: “What does the Meteorite Research Institute mean by this?”

Hao Jingye’s messages were also accessible to the Communications Department. As the head of the Communications Department, Wan Yuan could naturally see them, and judging by his tone, he was clearly astonished.

“What is it exactly?” Qi Lingwu frowned.

Hao Jingye felt helpless as he expanded the message for Sheng An to see, explaining:

“The Meteorite Research Institute and the Supernatural Biology Research Institute remaining in Jing City have reached a very important conclusion based on the information we’ve gathered, the information they’ve collected, and various previous analyses.”

“What is it?” Long Tianyu and Li Wanyun asked in unison.

Everyone else turned to look at him as well.

Sheng An had already seen the message and shook her head helplessly. “The higher-ups didn’t say.”

Hao Jingye added, “Yes, they didn’t say. They only told us to enter the Southwest as soon as possible. They’ll inform us of this hypothesis once we return with the Healing Type Superpower User. They aren’t quite certain about it yet.”

“What the heck!” Li Xin exploded. “Who stops halfway through a sentence? This is agonizing!”

Even if they weren’t certain, since they had already brought it up, they should just tell them.

It wasn’t like all the information they’d received in the past had been certain either.

Old Man Qin’s voice drifted over eerily-

“It’s obviously because telling you would only make you more miserable…”

“You?” Song Linwei looked at him, narrowing his eyes. “Why did you say ‘you’?”

Old Man Qin replied righteously, “I’m not a Superpower User. Whatever it is, it has nothing to do with me!”

He was just an old man tagging along with his grandson for food and drinks. Any conclusion reached had nothing to do with him.

Song Linwei was speechless and looked away, no longer paying him any mind.

Their curiosity hadn’t been satisfied; instead, they were left with a cliffhanger.

Jiang Yu felt stifled. “In that case, why even tell us they found something new? It would’ve been better to wait until we got back.”

Li Xin nodded in agreement.

Long Tianyu was even more blunt: “Whose decision was this? Which old man is it? Are they sick in the head?”

Hao Jingye said softly, “Elder Zhang.”

Long Tianyu: “…”

He instantly “followed his heart,” shrinking his neck back with a guilty expression. “Sorry, I’m the one who’s sick. I just love talking nonsense.”

Sheng An looked calmly at Hao Jingye. “The higher-ups informed us in advance because there’s something they want to ask?”

Hao Jingye nodded.

-See, it always came down to Sister Sheng’s composure.

He clicked on the second message sent from above.
