Transmigrated into Hoh Xil - Chapter 6
With the Tibetan fox in my jaws, I ran back, panting hard.
I had expected the tragic sight of Xia’er being mobbed by raptors and, weakened by his wounds, unable to fight them off.
To my surprise, their target was not Xia’er at all. It was Tashi!
“Awooo—”
As the Himalayan griffons pecked and harried him, the barely breathing Tashi let out a piercing howl.
Large raptors and classic opportunists, Himalayan griffons were built for scavenging and known as the plateau’s sanitation crew.
Ordinarily, they did not peck at living animals.
In other words, in their eyes, Tashi was already little different from a corpse.
I anxiously searched everywhere for Xia’er.
Fortunately, he was unharmed.
He lay far away on the frozen lake. The wound must have hurt badly, because he seemed to be using the ice to numb his injured hind leg.
“Awooo—awooo—”
When he saw me, Tashi howled even more miserably.
Our species were similar enough that I could hear his plea for help.
I hesitated.
Should I drive the vultures away or not?
I had thought Tashi useless and was about to give up on him entirely when my excellent distance vision caught a clump of leaves beside his mouth.
Wait…
Could those be the herbs Tashi had brought back?
Thrilled, I ignored Xia’er as he slowly walked toward me. I dropped the fox right in front of him and charged out!
Vultures, your wolf is coming!
Unlike other large raptors, Himalayan griffons had comparatively weak gripping and tearing power in their talons. They could not deal me a fatal wound.
That did not mean they would be easy for me to handle.
First, they had numbers on their side.
Second, they were the air force.
I was small and thin, and my offensive ability was far below that of other wolves.
More importantly, I was starving. How could I possibly have the stamina to drive off a whole group of raptors by myself?
Sigh…
I really did need to eat first.
While I considered a strategy, a violent wind struck.
The fierce current raced along the exposed ridge and climbed toward the summit, lifting dark blue gravel and translucent white ice crystals before roaring across the wilderness like a torrent.
For a moment, it felt as though someone had slapped me across the face with all their strength.
This wind—
was far too powerful.
I struggled to steady myself and narrowed my eyes, trying to find Xia’er through the rolling dust. Then something suddenly blocked my view—
A Himalayan griffon tumbled straight into me!
It was a juvenile, clearly too inexperienced to control itself in the gale.
Its bare neck was right before my eyes.
My eyes widened.
Wolves were opportunists too.
And an opportunity had just delivered itself to me.
Without the slightest hesitation, I lunged forward and bit down!
Ahahaha!
Thank you for nature’s bounty!
