At last, I saw the Ghost Bride’s true face.

He was a young man, perhaps eighteen or nineteen, tall and slender with extraordinarily fine features. He looked languid, but his black eyes were bottomless as a frozen pool.

“My. Dear. Husband.”

He forced out each word. Though his face betrayed no excess emotion, a chill crawled down my spine.

For some reason, I felt guilty. With the Evil God gripping my hand, I really did look like a wife trying to elope with her lover.

He was unfailingly courteous, the image of a perfect gentleman—if one ignored the terrifying black mist roiling around Him.

The candles went out. The wedding chamber, draped everywhere in scarlet silk, turned inexplicably cold.

The Ghost Bride’s expression was unreadable.

After a long while, he floated to my side. His long body bent until his head rested on my shoulder. Boneless as a cat, he gave a lazy yawn.

“So Husband has been pestered by a disgusting little insect.”

“And look at that outfit. Neither one thing nor the other. It breaks every rule.”

I nodded gently in agreement.

He gave a scornful laugh. His flamboyant, petulant voice sounded like a death knell.

The white gown faded from my body and became a scarlet wedding robe again.

“Mm.” The Ghost Bride sniffed me carefully. “Now you smell right.”

Strips of red silk wound around the Evil God, wrapping Him in a cocoon and slowly tightening.

The alarm ended.

I stared in surprise.

His anger had vanished that quickly?

I was almost looking forward to finding out.
