Triumph of Spring - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The snow outside was falling harder and harder.
I leaned against the stove.
Watching Xie Changling peel sugar mandarins for me, I stretched out a foot and nudged him with my toes. “Remember to take the pith off.”
Xie Changling chuckled.
His long, slender fingers pinched a perfectly clean segment and brought it to my lips.
I deliberately bit his finger.
He did not get angry.
He simply peeled another segment and fed it into my mouth.
Only this time…
He pushed it in a little farther and took his sweet time pulling his fingers back out.
I glared at him, mumbling incoherently, my cheeks burning so hot they felt as if they had caught fire.
Xie Changling was doing it on purpose.
He even asked, all innocent, “Want more?”
What I wanted was the sugar mandarin!
Just then,
a crackling burst of static rang out in my head.
The System, which had been gone for ages, appeared in a frenzy and started shrieking:
[Host! Who is this random man? Why haven’t you gone to capture the villain yet? I’ve already been called out and criticized by the Task Management Bureau!]
I gestured toward Xie Changling with my eyes. “The villain. I already finished capturing him. Now he even asks an ant whether it hurts if he steps on one. Dear Tongzi, you’re finally back online. So when do I get my manor, my ten-billion bonus, and my spaceship?”
The System fell silent for 1.5 seconds.
Then it said, on the verge of collapse:
[I just checked the mission guide. This random man is the male lead. You captured the wrong person. The villain is his older brother, the one who speaks very gently, waaah.]
I collapsed too. Waaah.
Chapter 2
Half a year ago,
the System brought me into this world and told me to capture the villain.
It only had time to tell me the villain was a prince before it got kicked off the connection and forced offline.
Relying on my stereotypical assumptions about villains,
I looked through the princes…
and chose Xie Changling.
Because he was the fiercest, the most irritable, and the best-looking.
He also spent all day saying, “Believe it or not, this prince will cut you down.”
A person like that.
How could he possibly not be the villain?
And so, I put both body and heart into it, accompanying him through the moonlight of countless nights.
The swaying moon, the double-vision moon…
At long last, I turned him into this peaceful, serene version of himself.
Good grief. I was basically born to do capture missions.
And now they were telling me I had captured the wrong person. The villain was Xie Changling’s older brother, Xie Jingrang, who smiled all day and spoke as gently as a spring breeze.
How was that any different from telling an ox it had plowed the wrong field?
“Dog System, I hate you!”
The System said: [Host, I applied for an opportunity for you to fake your death. You can change identities and capture the real villain all over again. Once you succeed, you’ll still receive the mission rewards.]
“Good System. After thinking it over, I believe we can still get along.”
“By the way, what kind of death did you arrange for me?”
The System cleared its throat:
[Choking to death on a sugar mandarin.]
