Triumph of Spring - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I heard Xie Changling had gone mad.
One second, I was still grinning. The next, I choked to death on a tiny sugar orange right in front of him.
Honestly, I would have gone mad too.
He carried my corpse everywhere, searching for a doctor.
The most respected old chief physician of the Imperial Hospital said I was already dead and beyond saving.
Xie Changling drew his sword, pressed it to the old man’s neck, and roared, “Say that again and see if I don’t cut you down!”
When the System relayed this to me, its tone sounded a little uncertain.
[Host, didn’t you say Xie Changling was the type to step on an ant and ask if it hurt…?]
“Oh. His limited-edition skin trial card expired.”
I sat before the bronze mirror, calmly filling in my brows and painting my lips.
Then I started viciously stabbing all kinds of gold hairpins into my hair.
Once they’re on my head, they’re mine~
At daybreak, I would be marrying Xie Changling’s older brother under this brand-new identity, becoming Xie Changling’s sister-in-law!
But this face…
“Dog System, could you possibly be any more half-assed? How is this different from my old face?”
The System replied, [There is a difference, Host. Look closely. There’s an extra tear mole under the outer corner of your eye. Time was tight, so I couldn’t remake the face from scratch. Once this mission is complete, I’ll give you one hundred free face-customization cards!]
No thanks. I’m already stuffed full of empty promises.
“Good System, don’t you think Xie Changling is perfectly suited to being the villain? Why don’t you just set Xie Changling as the villain for me? Then I’ll do this and that and conquer him all over again. Easy as pie!”
The System refused very decisively.
[No. The male lead belongs to the female lead.]
Oh. Why did that feel a little disappointing?
“Really, no? Then what do all those wonderful days I spent desperately winning him over count as? Seaweed?”
The System said, [They count as my just deserts.]
Chapter 4
Xie Jingrang was the Third Prince of the current dynasty.
Although he was not favored.
Although he was marrying a concubine-born daughter of Duke Wei’s Mansion.
Every single living prince and princess had somehow shown up.
Naturally, Xie Changling came too.
He just didn’t look too well. His face was very pale, and his eyes had no life in them.
He looked like a deranged low-ranking concubine who had just been released from the Cold Palace.
With my bridal veil over my head, I was supported by two maidservants as I walked through the great hall covered in red silk.
Maybe it was my imagination.
But when I passed in front of Xie Changling, I felt an intense, life-shortening force and shivered for no reason.
Later, when Xie Jingrang took my hand for the ceremonial bow, that feeling became even stronger.
It was like ten thousand needles stabbing into my back all at once.
I panicked a little. “Tongzi, you don’t think Xie Changling recognized me, do you…?”
The System replied, [Absolutely impossible! Don’t worry, Host. Two hours ago, I already corrected the series of bugs caused by you pursuing the wrong target~]
Was that a jab at me?
To prove what it had said, the System deliberately stirred up an eerie gust of wind, lifting one corner of my bridal veil.
Xie Changling remained expressionless.
Instead, the crowd of NPCs around us started reciting their lines.
“How can there be such a beautiful person in this world!”
“Heavens! I just saw a fairy!”
And so, beneath a sea of starry-eyed gazes, I gloriously exited the scene by walking backward.
