Every second I spent with Xu Qiao left my nerves stretched tight as I worried for my life.

Now, at last, I could breathe.

I went to a mall far from campus and ordered wontons. While I waited, I checked the messages on my phone.

The more I read, the more shocked I became.

I really was an impressive scumbag. I had added more than a thousand attractive men and women and sent them all sorts of obscene messages. If I had not been so handsome, someone would have reported me as a pervert long ago.

I deleted every last one of them, then opened my chat with Xu Qiao.

Before I won him over, our exchanges looked normal enough. Afterward, Xu Qiao sent nearly every message while my replies were either cold or openly abusive.

The only message he had not answered was the breakup text from last night.

My conscience pricked me, so I wrote to him first.

**Wifey, be good and stay home. We’ll go out again tomorrow.**

I had called him that while pursuing him. It was cheesy, but perfectly in character for the original Song Qichi.

His reply came immediately.

**Mm-hmm! Make sure you get plenty of rest too, A-Chi! I was so happy today!**

**I love you, hubby!**

Several messages filled the screen in rapid succession.

All I could do was answer, **I love you too**, and send him a heart.

Xu Qiao promptly sent a flood of hearts back, as if only sheer quantity could express how he felt.

I closed my phone with a sigh.

After eating, I wandered around until evening. I was too traumatized to return to that apartment, so I planned to spend the night at a hotel and worry about moving—or returning to the dorms—later.

On the way there, however, I ran into an ex coming out of a bar.

I tried to avoid him, but he had already seen me.

“Song Qichi!”

The young man wore light makeup, a cropped shirt, and jeans. His slender waist swayed as he rushed over and threw himself against me.

Pouting, he whined, “Hubby, why didn’t you come play tonight?”

I had no idea what to do with him. “Uh… something came up.”

He glanced at the hotel beside us and snorted. “You’re meeting some new little home-wrecker, aren’t you? No way. I’m going to your place tonight!”

He refused to let go. Every time I rejected him, he made a scene in the street, and then he puckered up to kiss me.

I could not shake him, so he dragged me into a car and took me home.

At my door, he tried to go inside. I blocked the entrance.

He wrapped himself around me again, hands roaming. “Hubby, didn’t you miss me? I missed you so much.”

I braced a hand against his shoulder and tried to push him away.

A gust of cold wind swept in.

I looked up. The moment I saw the figure on the flight of stairs above us, my pupils shrank.

The motion-activated light on our floor was broken, leaving only moonlight to see by.

Xu Qiao stood there. I had no idea how long he had been watching. He was as silent as a statue.

Moonlight stretched his shadow until it covered me completely.

He looked like the obsessive, gloomy supporting character in some bleak horror film, a ghost haunting his lover. The sight made my blood run cold.

He tilted his head, red lips parting.

“Hubby?”

Thunder cracked the moment the word left him. Lightning turned the stairwell bright as day, and rain came down in a sudden sheet, carrying damp air indoors.

I went cold from head to toe. When I met Xu Qiao’s sinister gaze, terror sank into my bones and my scalp went numb.

Why was he here?

The other man finally heard him and whipped around with a frightened cry. “Ah! W-Who are you?”

Xu Qiao did not answer. He descended the stairs and stopped in front of us.

He usually stooped enough to seem my height, but standing straight, he was half a head taller than me.

He pressed his lips together, hooked a finger around mine, and looked almost excited.

“Is he A-Chi’s boyfriend too? Are you going to sleep with him? Can I join you? I haven’t even done it with A-Chi—”

I clapped a hand over his mouth in horror.

What kind of outrageous filth was he saying?

Xu Qiao was a bomb that could explode at any moment. If we stayed there, something irreversible would happen.

I opened the door, shoved Xu Qiao inside, and turned to the man in the hall.

“We’ve broken up, and I have a boyfriend. Leave. Don’t come back.”

I ignored his wounded expression and slammed the door.

I was about to switch on the light when I noticed a faint red dot blinking on the cabinet beside the sofa.

I froze.

I was absolutely certain it had not been there when I left.

Xu Qiao must have entered my apartment and installed it.

But why had he stayed?

We had dated for a month without him planting a camera. Why do it today?

It felt less as if he wanted to watch me and more as if he wanted to record something.

What?

Combined with the way he had waited in the stairwell, it was almost as though he had been lying in wait for a certain event.

Cold sweat spread across my back. Goose bumps rose over my entire body.

There was only one explanation.

He had never intended to let me go.
