When Half the Paulownia Blossoms Fall - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I just never expected that after I came of age, the Black Snake would actually show up at my door.
He knocked shyly, then told me he had come to marry me.
I looked at his face, just as beautiful as the person I had seen in my dream all those years ago.
The thought of marrying a snake made me feel a little uneasy.
His head drooped at once, aggrieved, as if he was about to start shedding tiny tears.
“Xia Tong, you promised you would marry me.”
His hand seemed to brush over his pants pocket by accident, and a few big chunks of gold immediately slipped through his fingers.
With boundless enthusiasm, I shut the door, grabbed his hand, and pulled him inside.
“Yes, yes, yes. We’ll get married. We absolutely have to!”
The Black Snake happily leaned his head on my shoulder, and his tail slipped out to coil around my waist.
And just like that, I kept him at home and somehow began living with a Black Snake.
At first, I was still somewhat guarded around Yan Sui.
But as time went on, Yan Sui was like a fairy housekeeper. Every day, he trailed after me, clinging to me and calling me “wife” in a sticky-sweet voice.
At first, I told him to stop calling me that. He would look so wronged he seemed about to cry, staring at me pitifully.
Eventually, I just let him be.
Every day when I came home, the table was set with all my favorite dishes.
He would even massage me, and after I showered, he would gently blow-dry my hair.
Snakes were cold-blooded animals. Every night before bed, if I complained that he was cold, he would run over to the fire and roast himself until he was nice and warm. Then he would turn into a little black snake, crawl into my bed, curl up in a warm little coil, and fall asleep in my arms.
One time, I accidentally touched him and realized his tail was a little scorched. Feeling bad, I scolded him.
“From now on, don’t sleep in my arms anymore.”
Yan Sui lowered his head, his fluffy bangs falling obediently over his forehead.
A little upset, he muttered softly, “I’ll change anything you don’t like. Just don’t drive me away, okay?”
I reached out and hugged him around the waist.
Yan Sui smelled very clean, like sunlight mixed with fresh grass.
He gave me a feeling I had never experienced before: what it was like to be loved by someone.
I raised my head and pinched his incredibly soft cheek.
“Idiot. You can turn human!”
His face turned visibly red, and even the tips of his ears flushed hot.
For once, a mischievous urge rose in me, and I wanted to tease him.
“I heard snakes all have two of those things. If you turn human, would you still…”
Yan Sui, embarrassed into anger, yanked me into his arms and clapped a hand over my mouth.
Both our faces were burning red.
I reached out and tickled him, forcing him to let me go.
Yan Sui caught my restless hands, stared into my eyes, and slowly shifted his gaze down to my lips.
The air had turned a little intimate when, all of a sudden, a knock sounded at the door.
