Chapter 14

Yu Ge gave Chu Zhao a strange look, staring at her for a long while before saying, “The wealthiest people are the teachers, obviously. Their salaries are much higher than ours.”

Chu Zhao nodded thoughtfully.

It would probably be quite weird if she shouted “Here, Burst Some Coins” at a teacher… She had to think of something else.

“And?” Chu Zhao asked pleasantly. “Which of our classmates are relatively well-off?”

At this, everyone’s eyelids twitched. “What exactly are you trying to do?”

Chu Zhao looked solemn. “Nothing, I’m just asking.”

Lin Qiu glanced at her. “Qingyin is quite wealthy.” And Qinghe herself.

Chu Zhao nodded. “Is that it? Is our entire class just a bunch of paupers?”

Yu Ge’s lips quirked, her voice sounding somewhat drained. “If we were strong, would we still be in the first year?”

Chu Zhao’s eyes brightened. “Where do the upperclassmen hang out?”

Lin Qiu’s voice was cold, clearly annoyed by Chu Zhao’s questioning. “Stop asking. None of us can go there, let alone you.”

To prevent her from digging deeper, Zhu Qing’an quickly cut in, “Do you want to activate the Saint’s Protection?”

Yu Ge nodded as a matter of course, leading the group toward the fifth floor. “If the small animals riot en masse, that’s beyond my responsibility.”

“I must activate the Song of Eternity’s protection. Otherwise, if the teaching building falls, I won’t be able to answer for that crime.”

Thinking of the cold-bloodedness and cruelty of the Autonomous Council, Yu Ge’s nerves tightened further.

Chu Zhao triggered an Erudition check.

[You do not know the name of the academy’s Saint, but judging by common sense, you guess this Saint most likely belongs to the ‘Edict.’

‘Edict’ is the primary Faith of the myriad heavens. Its Saints throughout history are as numerous as the stars, but there is only one Saint willing to protect this fallen academy. A name suddenly surfaces in your mind-You failed! You truly are a shallow and ignorant bastard.]

Chu Zhao: “…”

She needed to go to the library.

She needed to read books.

She really wanted to improve herself…

When they entered the storage room, Lin Qiu seemed to intentionally block her at the door, but Chu Zhao worked hard to push past her and squeeze inside.

Ignoring her roommate’s icy expression, she curiously eyed the only object in the storage room.

It was a torn page from a book.

Reading activated.

[Torn Page · Song of Eternity (A)]

[A page from the artifact ‘Soul Lament.’ It possesses extremely strong purification power, can briefly suppress Corruption, and protects against interference from A-rank and below Aberrants, demons, and Wraiths.]

A-rank?

An item?

It looked quite valuable.

Chu Zhao pondered.

She remembered the “I was here” messages she had read before; S-rank was above A-rank. This thing should be quite expensive. Could she say “Here, Burst Some Coins” to this piece of paper?

What would happen?

Chu Zhao was curious, so she decided to try it.

“Here, Burst Some Coins!” she shouted loudly.

This not only startled her roommates but also made Yu Ge flinch.

They looked at Chu Zhao in shock, finding her behavior incomprehensible yet strangely intimidating.

Only Lin Qiu seemed to sense something. She instinctively looked at the torn page, and her face gradually darkened.

That page… seemed to be missing a corner.

Chu Zhao stared at the item in her Inventory and fell into thought.

It works like this too?

Now I get it.

[Fragment · Song of Eternity (B)]

[A fragment from the artifact ‘Soul Lament.’ It possesses a certain degree of purification power and can briefly protect against interference from B-rank and below Aberrants, demons, and Wraiths.]

Lin Qiu’s icy voice rang out. “…What did you do?”

Chu Zhao replied, “Nothing. I just suddenly felt a bit short on cash and shouted on a whim.”

She asked, “Is something wrong?”

Yu Ge found it bizarre. “Don’t shout randomly next time. It’s noisy.”

She then said to Lin Qiu and the other, “Give me a hand.”

Zhu Qing’an remained quiet throughout, seemingly noticing nothing, maintaining a low profile.

Chu Zhao took a moment to Read the page again and found it was still A-rank; nothing had changed.

Lin Qiu stared at Chu Zhao for a moment, her voice full of warning. “Don’t speak another word.”

Chu Zhao made a gesture of compliance, acting nonchalant. “Be my guest.”

Only then did she notice that the page was confined within a transparent container. Below the container was a console with a button-like interface, which Yu Ge now had her hand pressed against.

The color of the button gradually shifted from deep blue to red, but it seemed to lack sufficient power.

As Lin Qiu stepped forward, the button’s color instantly turned a piercing, blood-soaked red.

In the next second, the page fluttered gently.

A melodious tune drifted from the page-clear as moonlight, gentle as the stars, like the most lingering breeze in the endless night, drifting into everyone’s ears.

This was actually a song?

Chu Zhao raised an eyebrow, wondering if she had just looted a music player.

Yu Ge acted as if nothing had happened and looked at Lin Qiu. “Why are you still in the first year?”

“Did you fail the assessment?”

Lin Qiu was still thinking about the missing corner of the page, her expression souring the more she thought about it.
She lowered her head to send a message, tagging Li Qingyin in the [Room 612] group chat.

Li Qingyin: [What’s wrong?]

With a cold expression, Lin Qiu recounted Chu Zhao’s transgressions in detail.

Li Qingyin: […We’ll talk when you get back.]

Chu Zhao: “?”

Lin Qiu, you’re a grown adult and you’re actually taddling?

[Task Completed]

[Obtained Points +100]

[Yu Ge’s File / Yu Ge’s Wallet / Yu Ge’s Heart]

[Please select-]

Chu Zhao pondered.

Logic told her to choose Yu Ge’s File. As a Scholar, she was naturally inclined toward the acquisition of information.

But Chu Zhao chose ‘Yu Ge’s Heart.’

While the file was important, she was more curious about what the heart was for.

It couldn’t be for steaming or braising, could it?

Chu Zhao was quite intrigued.

A pitch-black heart appeared in her inventory.

[Inventory (4/4)]

They were: “Here, Burst Some Coins,” “I’m Too Eager to Improve,” “Song of Eternity Fragment,” and “Yu Ge’s Heart.”

Chu Zhao obviously wouldn’t take the heart out in front of Yu Ge. She planned to examine it back at the dormitory.

Yu Ge said, “The threatening little creatures have been cleared out. With the Song of Eternity’s protection, you won’t be in any more danger before you leave the teaching building.”

After speaking, she remained silent for a moment before saying to Chu Zhao, “…Thank you.”

Chu Zhao nodded and smiled. “You’re welcome.”

After bidding farewell to Yu Ge, they returned to the classroom.

This time, Chu Zhao had no opportunity or excuse to go out. She was blocked into her seat by her roommates, unable to go anywhere.

Lin Qiu’s warning glare was practically poking her in the forehead.

Lin Qiu even considered sitting in the back row herself, but after hesitating for a long time, she said to Zhu Qing’an, “I’ll sit in the front. You keep an eye on her.”

Zhu Qing’an looked calm. “I will.”

Chu Zhao didn’t care what they thought. She found 611’s contact. [Are your roommates rich?]

Bai Ge: [?]

Chu Zhao: [I want to buy some information from them. Who do you think is most likely to accept?]

Bai Ge: [Wang Zhuo, probably. She’s easier to… talk to.]

Chu Zhao had applied to add everyone from Room 611 as friends earlier. She didn’t know what their plan was, but they had actually all accepted her friend requests.

Right then, she sent a message to Wang Zhuo. [Red Envelope]

[I have a small point of confusion. Could I trouble you to help me clear it up?]

Wang Zhuo had already gone downstairs. She glanced at her phone and instinctively clicked the red envelope.

By the time she reacted, it was too late.

Seeing her balance increase by 100, Wang Zhuo could only reply: [Go ahead.]

Chu Zhao: [Do you have our class committee list?]

The screen showed that Wang Zhuo was typing…

[The Class Monitor is…]

A long message was sent to Chu Zhao all at once.

Wang Zhuo typed out a sentence: [Don’t ask me anymore, I’m not telling…]

Before she could finish typing, another red envelope arrived.

It was followed closely by a small question from Chu Zhao-

[Who among our class committee members do you think is the easiest to talk to? For example… someone who might be tight on cash?]

Wang Zhuo: […]

I knew it, you want to bribe them!

But it really was just a matter of a single sentence. Wang Zhuo conveniently clicked the red envelope. [Look for Wang Chengyang. He’s the Academic Representative, and he’s also quite poor.]

Chu Zhao: [Thank you so much.]

Wang Zhuo: [Hmph.]

Bai Ge noticed her actions and probably guessed something, but she didn’t interfere.

Before the teacher arrived, Chu Zhao used money to obtain information on the entire class. In addition to the roster and dormitory assignments, she knew who the best students were, the worst students, the ones most in need of money, the ones with the worst tempers, the popular ones, the outcasts…

She had essentially figured out everything she could.

Among them, Lin Qiu was the student with the best grades, and Zhu Qing’an was the student with the least presence.

And she, Zhao Qinghe, was the most popular student… as well as the Class Monitor and the ‘Ritual Class’ representative.

No one had told her that Zhao Qinghe was actually the Class Monitor-the Class Monitor of Edict First Year, Class 3.

Chu Zhao: “…”

No wonder ‘Teacher Yun’ had specifically looked for her.

*Ring-*

Before she knew it, quite a few people had trickled into the classroom.

There were only 39 people in the class, making the room feel overly spacious. This was clearly a small-group lesson for Class 1 (3), so the students weren’t arranged in their four-person dormitory groups.

A familiar figure walked in from outside and naturally placed her books on the desk.

“Today, we’ll start with a test.”

As soon as she spoke, a test paper automatically appeared in front of everyone, with even a pen prepared.

“Class Monitor, collect everyone’s books.”

Some figures looked up in confusion, not understanding why the teacher had called for the Class Monitor instead of the class representative this time.

Chu Zhao scanned the room.

As expected, no one stood up.

She nudged Zhu Qing’an, and Zhu Qing’an moved aside to let her out.

“Okay, Teacher.”
