Chapter 13

Since Chu Zhao only had one account, anyone who clicked into her profile details could confirm her identity. She hadn’t actually planned on hiding it from her roommates anyway.

Chu Zhao smiled. “It’s me.”

Zhu Qing’an understood and poked Chu Zhao again. “Let me in.”

Chu Zhao: “…”

After a brief standoff, Chu Zhao let her in.

She had a backup group anyway, so she wasn’t afraid.

She just had to wait for the players to gather for class. Once she identified them, she could pull them directly into the other group.

Since she’d already let Zhu Qing’an in, what did it matter if she added Li Qingyin and Lin Qiu too?

Including the ones from 611, Chu Zhao let them all in.

A second later, someone spoke up. [Who are you?]

Wang Zhuo: [We don’t have anyone named Lin Jiu in 611.]

Lin Qiu: [I’d like to know that too.]

Li Qingyin: [:)]

aaa Lin Jiu 611: [What’s wrong with keeping track of my balance?]

Wang Zhuo had a sudden realization and turned to @aaa Wang Tun 612. [And you? Your balance is exactly 612?]

She continued, [When did you change your name to Wang Tun? Tell me now, and I promise I won’t kill you.]

Chu Zhao: “…”

The roommates from 611 were surprisingly fierce.

Lin Qiu followed the trend and @aaa Lin Jiu 611. [Well?]

Chu Zhao: [I once saw a little bird called a Lin Jiu. It was quite cute, and I liked it a lot.]

Lin Qiu: […]

Chu Zhao replied as if nothing was wrong, [Stop ‘well-ing’ me. Did you get your books?]

At that moment, a member of 611 who had been brutally exposed by her roommates popped up-

Bai Ge: [:)]

She sent a private message to Chu Zhao: [Why did you let them all in?]

Chu Zhao immediately pulled her into Group 2 (16662). [Roommates… you know how it is.]

Bai Ge: […] She knew exactly how it was, especially with Wang Zhuo currently standing in front of her, revealing her true form to threaten her.

If her mental fortitude had been any weaker, she would have been on her knees calling her ‘Grandmother’ by now.

Meanwhile, Lin Qiu appeared at the classroom door. Still wearing that deadpan expression, she walked in, heading straight for Chu Zhao.

Chu Zhao was sitting in the innermost seat with Zhu Qing’an in the middle, so she wasn’t afraid of her at all.

Zhu Qing’an sat there like a little mushroom, refusing to budge and perfectly blocking Lin Qiu’s gaze.

“You’re not sitting in the front row today?” Zhu Qing’an asked.

Lin Qiu answered honestly, “I’ll go in a bit.”

Chu Zhao immediately chimed in, “How about we go for a walk?”

“Last time I only explored Zone B. I haven’t seen Zone A yet.”

Zhu Qing’an rejected the idea almost without thinking. “No.”

Chu Zhao looked at Lin Qiu expectantly.

Lin Qiu was cold as ice. “Not allowed.”

After a brief stare-down, Chu Zhao knew she wouldn’t be allowed out.

She looked away, added everyone from 611 as friends, and then contacted Yu Ge, whom she hadn’t seen all day.

[Yu Ge, I’m here for class. Where are you?]

[Killing small animals,] Yu Ge’s tone sounded quite frustrated. [I don’t know what’s going on today, but suddenly a lot of small animals are trying to force their way into the teaching building. I took my eyes off them for a second and a dozen or so slipped in.]

She added, [Fortunately, yours is the only class this afternoon, and the teachers haven’t arrived yet.]

Chu Zhao felt a sense of duty. [Do you need help?]

Yu Ge: [Why are you here so early?]

Chu Zhao: [Just a whim. By the way, why are so many small animals trying to break in today?]

Yu Ge: [No idea. Maybe they’re starving.]

[It would be great if you could help. If I can’t clear them all out before class starts, my wages will be docked.]

Wages?

They needed wages too?

That made sense… without a source of funds, what would they eat?

Thinking about the wealth gap in her own dorm, Chu Zhao fell into thought.

So, what were her roommates’ respective jobs?

Now that she had a legitimate excuse, Chu Zhao asked for Yu Ge’s location and turned to the others. “Yu Ge asked me for help. Let’s go together.”

She was met with the confused stares of her roommates, as if they were wondering how she even knew Yu Ge.

*We only let you go out alone once… and you…?*

Chu Zhao acted out of the goodness of her heart. “She said many small animals have broken into the teaching building. If she can’t find them before the teacher arrives, her wages will be docked.”

Lin Qiu stared at her for a long time before finally moving out of the way.

Zhu Qing’an sighed. *So tiring.*

Before leaving, Chu Zhao activated the big wheel again-the so-called ‘Gift of Fate’.

She had earned a hundred Points in addition to the 2,000 yuan from completing the small side quest in the cafeteria.

Chu Zhao was someone who lacked a sense of security. Having ‘I’m Too Eager to Improve’ wasn’t enough; she needed a more direct weapon.

The silver disc in her pupils spun once, and Chu Zhao’s expression suddenly became peculiar.

[Here, Burst Some Coins (3/3)]

[Because of poverty, you have birthed an endless wail.

Why can’t you be a rich woman? Your longing for money grants you power.

(Usage: Shout ‘Here, Burst Some Coins’ at the top of your lungs. The louder the voice, the more coins you get. Hee~)]

The moment she got it, Chu Zhao’s eyes instinctively swept over her roommates.

Zhu Qing’an and the other girl noticed nothing as they exited the classroom through the back door.

Led by Chu Zhao, who seemed to know the way well, they went up to the third floor and found Yu Ge in the restroom next to B-304.

Currently, she was leaning on a mop with a look of annoyance. One of her legs had turned into a twisted vine of flesh, coiling around three greyish, monstrous things.

The moment Chu Zhao approached, the grey monsters suddenly went berserk, struggling frantically under the flesh vine as they tried to pounce toward her.
Yu Ge looked up abruptly, her gaze completely bypassing Lin Qiu and the other roommate to stare straight at Chu Zhao.

Her voice suddenly turned cold and eerie. “Qinghe?”

Chu Zhao’s expression remained natural. “What’s wrong? I’m here to help you.”

Her casual expression and familiar attitude caused Yu Ge to lapse into confusion for a moment.

However, in the next second, the frantic behavior of the small creatures snapped her back to her senses.

She studied Zhao Qinghe deeply for a while before coldly turning her face away. “I don’t need your help. Leave.”

Chu Zhao, having been scrutinized for a while, had already guessed what she was thinking. Smiling, she stepped over the writhing mass of gray mist, leaving her roommates’ side to walk right up to Yu Ge.

“Xiao Ge, have you stopped liking me after just one day?” Taking advantage of her height, she forcibly draped an arm around Yu Ge’s shoulders. Her long eyelashes lowered, making her look incredibly pitiful. “The moment I heard you were in trouble, I brought Qiuqiu and the others to help.”

Yu Ge: “…”

…Are we even that close?

She was utterly speechless.

Just as she was about to refuse again, she heard a short sound, like a muffled balloon popping, followed by two more.

Yu Ge looked over in shock just in time to see Lin Qiu stomping down, crushing the struggling, squirming gray-mist creatures one by one.

Noticing their stares, Lin Qiu looked up. “Done helping. Let’s go back.”

On her pale face sat a pair of pitch-black, lifeless eyes. They resembled those of someone who had been blind for a long time-dead and emotionless.

But at this moment, her gaze was fixed squarely on Chu Zhao.

Lin Qiu was serious.

She felt that since everything had been stomped to death, she could take Chu Zhao back to the classroom.

Yu Ge silently retracted her legs, shifting back into her normal human form.

Chu Zhao: “Don’t be scared, Qiuqiu. I’ll protect you.”

The three “people” present: “…”

[Side Quest: Yu Ge’s Plea for Help]

[The rioting small creatures are causing Yu Ge a great deal of trouble. She has requested your assistance, hoping you can help her deal with these little nuisances before the teacher arrives.]

[Reward: Points +100, Yu Ge’s File / Yu Ge’s Wallet / Yu Ge’s Heart (Choose one)]

Scanning the quest, Chu Zhao’s brows twitched slightly, and her tone became even more righteous. “I’m a naturally helpful person. If I say I’m going to help, I’m going to help.”

Zhu Qing’an comforted Yu Ge with the tone of someone who had been through it before. “Forget it, just let her have her way.” Otherwise, she’ll nag you until you have no peace…

Yu Ge looked at Zhu Qing’an with utter disbelief.

She remembered Zhu Qing’an as an extremely taciturn individual. Despite having seen her many times, this was actually the first sentence she had heard her speak since they met.

Yu Ge thought deeply for a moment before finally nodding slowly. “Fine.”

Chu Zhao: “…I’m helping you, and you’re acting like it’s such a chore?”

Yu Ge gave her a cold glance and pulled herself out from under Chu Zhao’s arm. “Then don’t help.”

She didn’t know this person at all, yet the girl acted so familiar that she had almost mistaken her for someone else.

Chu Zhao: “Let’s go, let’s find the little creatures.”

She rolled up her shirt sleeves, putting on an expression like she was ready for a big fight, but as she looked down, her gaze froze.

At some point, winding scars had appeared on her smooth, fair arms.

On both wrists, there were very prominent deep-red scars, looking as if someone had repeatedly slit their wrists. The deep scars were as jagged as dog bites, with faint red marks winding from her wrists toward her elbows.

When did this happen?

When she was brushing her teeth this morning, there hadn’t been any scars.

Chu Zhao’s gaze hardened.

Zhu Qing’an walked up and took a look, then glanced at Chu Zhao discreetly. “What’s wrong?”

Chu Zhao acted as if nothing had happened. “Let’s go, keep moving.”

She had been pondering a question.

Where was the real Zhao Qinghe?

Since the roommates of Room 612 were on such good terms, how could they tolerate one of their roommates suddenly disappearing?

Or perhaps, they knew exactly where she was all along.

As if she had a built-in radar, Yu Ge easily led them to where the gray mist was, which Lin Qiu then promptly stomped to death.

Just like when they first met, Lin Qiu moved like a phantom; her movements were a complete blur.

Yu Ge and Zhu Qing’an had no further chance to act, leaving Chu Zhao with zero insight into their combat capabilities.

Chu Zhao crossed her arms thoughtfully.

In truth, even if she did understand them, there wasn’t much she could do.

While waiting for the quest to settle, Chu Zhao asked casually, “Did the little creatures riot all of a sudden?”

Yu Ge glanced at her. “Obviously.”

Chu Zhao: “How come I didn’t see any little creatures the last time I came?”

Yu Ge gave her a ghostly look. “Because it was raining last time.”

Chu Zhao let out an “oh.” “Then your salary is definitely getting docked.”

If she alone had attracted over a dozen rioting creatures, how could Yu Ge possibly catch them all by herself once the other players followed their roommates to class?

Yu Ge frowned. “Why?”

She didn’t understand why her salary would definitely be docked.

She was living in the teaching building just for this work-study program; why would they dock her pay?

Lin Qiu said calmly, “In our class… there are still many ‘people’ who haven’t arrived yet.”

She placed a slight, heavy emphasis on the word “people.”

Upon hearing this, Yu Ge finally realized the situation. She said solemnly, “I need your help.”

Chu Zhao smiled slightly. “Then do me a favor.”

Yu Ge: “What favor?”

At this point, she no longer cared about the issue of the imposter; she only wanted to save her salary as quickly as possible.

Chu Zhao: “Tell me, who’s the richest person in this building?”

In that moment, an intense look of confusion appeared on all three faces.

…Huh?
