Chapter 3

I drove Gu Yanzhi away.

Zhou Ran clung to me like a small animal starved for security, refusing to let go.

I patted his head.

“It’s okay.”

“I won’t let him fool me. I’ll always believe you.”

Zhou Ran let out a little whine before reluctantly pulling away.

“Then wait here for me, okay? I’ll go downstairs to the convenience store and buy a spoon.”

“I was in such a rush to get back that I forgot to grab one.”

“Mm. Go on.”

“Huh? Wait, you forgot your umbrella again.”

But Zhou Ran had already left too quickly.

By the time I reacted, he had disappeared through the door.

With a helpless sigh, I could only put on my coat and chase after him.

The rain was pouring so hard it blurred my vision.

I stood at the intersection, searching for Zhou Ran’s figure.

Through the crowd, I saw that familiar back turn into an alley.

I hurried after him.

But from far away, I heard the dull thud of something heavy slamming into a wall.

Zhou Ran’s laughing voice drifted over through the rain. “Why doesn’t CEO Gu ever learn?”

Instinctively, I lightened my footsteps.

The scene before me froze me in place, a chill spreading through my entire body.

Clear beads of rain slid down his Adam’s apple and into his collar. His white shirt clung to the muscles of his waist and abdomen, revealing the outline of the bandages beneath.

Expressionless, he lifted his foot and ground the sole of his leather shoe into Gu Yanzhi’s fingers.

Gu Yanzhi’s face contorted in pain, and he coughed up bloody foam.

“I knew you were deliberately trying to win my sister’s pity.”

Zhou Ran’s eyes instantly turned dark and vicious.

“Shh-”

The sharp tip of a fountain pen pressed against Gu Yanzhi’s Adam’s apple.

“I’m the only one allowed to call her that.”

He tilted his head and chuckled softly.

“I told you, didn’t I? If you dare touch what’s hers…”

Gu Yanzhi instinctively turned his head away to dodge.

Without warning, Gu Yanzhi’s gaze met mine.

I hurriedly backed up a few steps behind the wall, unsure whether he had recognized me through the heavy rain.

Gu Yanzhi’s tightly clenched fist slowly loosened.

He lowered his eyes, the corner of his mouth curving up almost imperceptibly.

Zhou Ran snorted coldly.

“What?”

“Scared?”

“Why are you so weak today? Last time, you almost threw me off the roof.”

The next second, I heard Gu Yanzhi’s fragile voice.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Haven’t you been the one beating me up this whole time?”

“Cough, cough, cough… It hurts so much. Is anyone there? Help-“
