Chapter 5

I paid the price for running my mouth.

My reputation as the Demon Consort spread in no time.

For a while, everyone inside and outside the palace had their eyes on me.

It was my first time being a big celebrity, and honestly, it felt kind of weird.

I got carried away.

Not bad, not bad. I felt like I had won.

Now I was the person on the very tip of Xiao Huan’s heart, the center of everyone’s attention.

As long as I maintained this identity, he would definitely forgive me for stabbing him in the back in my last life.

Then, out of the kindness of his heart, he would let me leave the palace.

After all, the best kind of love is letting go.

His Majesty was well-read and worldly. Surely he understood that principle.

I hadn’t even been happy for two days.

That damned Chancellor made up his mind and, with absolutely no regard for his children’s happiness, forcibly sent all three of his daughters into the palace.

His arrogant, domineering second daughter was appointed Consort De.

His cool, ethereal third daughter was appointed Consort Shu.

His sweet and adorable youngest daughter was appointed Consort Xian.

At this point, some of you may be asking:

Streamer, what about the eldest daughter?

The eldest daughter was the empress of the previous dynasty.

She had wanted to come into the palace to play with me too.

Unfortunately, the Chancellor thought it was too embarrassing and refused, no matter what, to let her participate in this farce.

And just like that, the palace now had four consorts standing side by side.

Smiles don’t disappear. They simply transfer onto the Chancellor’s face.

The Chancellor was over the moon, smugly believing he had gained control over both me and Xiao Huan.

Xiao Huan held me in his arms and cried heartbrokenly, wailing at the top of his lungs.

“Waaah, I’m sorry, Yingying. I am a useless people-pleaser of an emperor.”

“I really didn’t know how to refuse the Chancellor…”

His inner thoughts, however, were extremely sinister:

[Heh heh heh. As the saying goes, true feelings are revealed in adversity. I’ll simply pull off a massive harem expansion.]

[This way, Yingying will gradually develop a sense of crisis, and then she’ll be forced to rely on me for survival.]

[What a tragic pair of lovebirds we are!]

[This move of mine is way too devious.]

I clumsily comforted him.

“It’s all right, Your Majesty.”

Xiao Huan looked up. “Imperial Consort, are you only pretending to be strong when, deep down, you’re actually terrified?”

“You must be very afraid of being isolated and bullied by the little cliques in the harem, right?”

[Don’t worry. I will absolutely be isolated and bullied together with you!]

[My wife smells so good, hehe, hehehe…]

I said sorrowfully, “Your Majesty, I want to go back to my hometown.”

“Why don’t you use this chance to depose me and let me go?”

“You’re a live-in son-in-law, and I’m a deposed consort. Neither of us can afford to offend the Chancellor.”

“If we can’t afford to offend him, surely we can at least hide from him.”

Xiao Huan’s idiotic laughter stopped.

His IQ seized the high ground. “Lu Yingying, what do you mean by that?”

“You want to leave? You don’t want to live with me anymore?”

“Don’t tell me you were lying to me all along, and your real goal was to leave the palace?”

I had gotten somewhat used to His Majesty’s madness.

I listened as though I had no ears at all. “Your Majesty, everything you said is correct.”

Xiao Huan exploded.

“Is it fun to toy with me? Lu Yingying, this time I really won’t forgive you!”

“You always trample on my sincerity so casually. You’ve wounded my heart beyond repair!”

“Fortunes rise and fall-just you wait!”

What was he babbling about?

I asked, “Can we have iron-pot goose stew for dinner?”

Xiao Huan stormed away from the table. “Do whatever you want! It’s not like I care whether I live or die anymore!”

Half a quarter of an hour later…

It suddenly dawned on me.

Oh no.

This time, I had truly pissed Xiao Huan off.
