Chapter 2

I didn’t push him away.

Maybe it was because an Omega was kissing me for the first time, but the pheromones swirling around him made my whole head feel like fireworks bursting into bloom.

The peach blossom scent, which had been fresh before, was now thick and sticky, like wine brewed from honey peaches.

I couldn’t help wanting to suck up every last drop.

“Mm…” Shen Xuzhou gave a pained yelp, reached up and pushed me gently, the corners of his eyes tinged with a red flush of desire.

It really was strange.

The same person who just a few days ago was a fierce, cocky Alpha with a sullen face now had reddened eyes and was telling me he had “differentiated into an Omega.”

His light brown eyes, usually full of mockery and impatience, now mirrored my own slightly tipsy look and held hints of a rippling sensuality I had never seen before.

“Shen Xuzhou…” I steadied his thighs where he straddled me, tilted my head back and kissed him again. “I’ve never seen you like this.”

He faltered, lowered his gaze to hide his expression, and gave a muffled sound of assent through his nose: “…Mm.”

Then he shook his head gently.

“Tonight, don’t call my name. Okay?”

I pushed his head down, rubbing his burning earlobe. “Are you being shy?”

He bit his lip and simply arched his waist, grinding closer to me.

As if that powder keg of estrangement from the other day had never happened.

“So very obedient, Young Master Shen.”

I burrowed against his neck, breathing in the pheromone-laced peach blossom scent, now richer and sweeter than ever-perhaps a trait of having differentiated into an Omega.

Then I licked the tender flesh of his neck, quivering with his panting.

That was his gland.

I’d never bitten it before.

Every time I got close, Shen Xuzhou would instinctively show resistance, as any Alpha would.

But now, like Eve and Adam stealing the forbidden fruit, I tilted my head and took a bite.

“Ah…”

Shen Xuzhou’s body tensed abruptly. He threw his head back, a hoarse gasp wrenching from his throat, and his arms wrapped around my neck, pulling me tight.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

Whose heartbeat it was I couldn’t tell, but it was startlingly clear in the scattering rain.

“You… you like…” He held me like a fish stranded on shore, his voice indistinct. “Tonight me, or the me from before…?”

“Hm? I like both.”

“…”

For some reason, he squinted and bit my shoulder lightly.
I ran into Shen Xuzhou again three days later.

Band practice had ended. He was leaning against the corridor outside the auditorium, watching the sun sink low.

Narrow waist, broad shoulders, long legs, his face cold and distant in the evening glow.

His body was just too damn fine.

I still hadn’t gotten used to the fact that he had differentiated into an Omega.

“Yo, you get your fill and then bolt?” I whistled and slung my arm over his shoulder from behind, all swagger.

“Why’d you slip away without a word that morning?”

He was too tall-I had to stand on tiptoes to even get my arm around him.

Shen Xuzhou shot me a side-eyed glare, sullenly pushed my hand off, and spoke through gritted teeth:

“Li Song, stop coming around to mess with me.”

Me: “Playing hot and cold? What’s your deal?”

“Tch.” His face was glacial, sarcasm dripping: “Play hot and cold with who? Say what I’m supposed to say? That you’re a heartless player?”

“Back when you were chasing me, didn’t you keep saying you liked me?”

“What…”

I opened my mouth to cut him off, but he seized my wrist and yanked me close.

His light brown eyes narrowed as they examined me, up and down.

“Then you went and played with every inch of my body, only to turn around and tell me ‘Alphas don’t feel anything’?”

“That’s the crap you said, isn’t it?”

As he spoke, he lifted a hand and stroked my face, the chill making me flinch.

“But… but that was then…” I scrambled for an excuse. “I won’t say such hurtful things again!”

His voice rose: “Having regrets?”

I nodded furiously: “Mm-hmm!”

He looked away and sneered: “You think I’m some spineless dog who’ll come wagging his tail back the moment you regret it?”

Even as he said that, his cold hand lingered on my cheek, almost unconsciously attached.

His gaze drifted far away, his brow smoothing, and he laughed, wild and unbridled.

“A worthless master like you better pray every day that the dog you raised keeps obedient.”

From what I knew of Shen Xuzhou,

this matter should be considered closed.

I looked up at his somewhat softened expression and curved my lips into a smile. “So, are Omegas really this temperamental?”

After differentiating, he should have become gentler, like that night.

“Omega?”

That light syllable rolled around Shen Xuzhou’s lips.

He narrowed his eyes, suddenly turned and grabbed me by the collar, his fingers slipping past my hair to touch my neck.

“You still dare mention Omega in front of me?”

I froze. “Huh?”

Shen Xuzhou brushed aside my hair, and the gland at the back of my neck was exposed to the air without warning.

He leaned in and sniffed at my neck.

He should have been able to catch a hint of peach blossom scent.

Then his arm muscles tensed, and-bang-he pinned me against the railing.

“What’s your meaning, Li Song? You come looking to get back together just to have a laugh?”

He tipped my chin up.

At a distance just shy of a kiss.

Shen Xuzhou took a deep breath, his eyes dark and obsessive, and an overpowering wave of peach blossom scent filled the air instantly:

“You slept with Shen Xu’an, didn’t you? It’s only been a few days since we broke up?”

“Just because he’s an Omega you can mark?”

His eyes grew even darker as he leaned in a little more, his voice dropping to almost a whisper as he asked:

“…It must have been him who seduced you, right?”
