Chapter 2

Before closing the door, the organizer quietly slipped me a small box.

“Complimentary with the package. We hope you have a pleasant evening.”

There was a string of English printed on it, and I couldn’t understand a single word.

“What is this?”

The organizer gave me an extremely sleazy smile. “Why, something for cooking, of course.”

I shook the feather-light little box.

A guy nearly six-foot-three, and this was all he ate?

Clutching the small box, I returned to the room. The Beast-man was hiding in the corner of the sofa.

A huge lump of him was curled up there, watching me warily.

The moment I took even half a step closer, he bared his teeth at me viciously.

Getting him to take a bath had become a problem.

I put on a friendly smile and tried to close the distance between us. “What’s your name?”

A threatening growl rumbled from his throat. “Grr!”

Strange. Hadn’t he been able to speak human language just now?

Unwilling to give up, I kept asking, “How old are you this year?”

He stared at me and let out another low growl. “Grr!”

I was completely speechless and clicked my tongue. “Little Dog-Man, don’t tell me that one sentence earlier was the only human language you know?”

I paid One Hundred Million and only got myself a pretty mute. Kind of a loss.

His round puppy eyes glared at me. This time, he finally stopped grumbling. “I’m a wolf.”

Thank God. Not mute.

I let out a long breath. “Little Wolf-Man, do you know how to take a bath?”

His eyes narrowed. “Xia Ye.”

I froze.

“My name isn’t Little Wolf-Man.” Xia Ye hugged his knees, trying hard to shrink himself even smaller. “I hate baths.”

His current state could be summed up in seven words.

Small, pitiful, helpless-but built.

The corner of the sofa could barely fit him anymore. Looking at him, I wanted to laugh and felt sorry for him at the same time.

Just how insecure did someone have to be to end up like this?

I planted my hands on my hips. “You still have to wash even if you hate it. I’m your master now, so you have to listen to me.”

Xia Ye’s ears flicked impatiently, then drooped down, shutting themselves closed.

Beast ears really were convenient.

Chapter 4

With a mix of praise, coaxing, and every bit of persuasion I could muster, I finally managed to coax him into the bathroom.

On one condition: I had to go in with him.

The smell of blood on him was heavy. It really couldn’t be called pleasant.

To make sure he got clean, I had no choice but to give in.

In all my twenty-plus years of life, my only experience washing anything had been bathing Dahuang, the dog at the village entrance.

I stood outside doing mental preparation for a long while before finally mustering the courage to pull open the bathroom door.

Xia Ye stood there dripping wet.

Completely naked.

When he saw me come in, his face didn’t flush and his breathing didn’t change. He even looked a little impatient. “You’re so slow. Which one is the shampoo? I can’t read…”

Pale red trails of water slid down skin so fair it was almost translucent.

Past his neck, his collarbones, the curves of his arms, before finally joining the streams dripping from his fingertips and blooming into faint red stains on the floor.

So…

Pink…

All the moisture in my mouth evaporated at once.

I took three breaths in a row, and only after the burning in my lower abdomen eased a little did I walk in stiffly, moving my arms and legs on the same side, to sort the bottles for him.

The whole time, Xia Ye deliberately kept his distance from me.

As soon as I finished explaining everything, he drove me out.

Feeling as if I’d been pardoned, I strode toward the door.

But the second before I pulled it open, I stepped on the soap.

And then tragedy struck.
