Feed Me, Husband - Chapter 78
Chapter 78
Lu Yichen was substituting for a course on Ancient Chinese History, specifically covering one tiny segment of the vast historical timeline.
Gu Xiaonuan sat in the very last row, genuinely paying attention to his lecture. She discovered that his teaching caliber was exceptionally high; his grasp of historical milestones and timing was incredibly precise.
Moreover, he could react swiftly to student questions, rarely making any chronological slips or errors.
Beyond his solid foundation in the core coursework, his teaching style was vivid and engaging. Throughout the nearly two-hour public lecture, the History Department students listened with rapt interest, as did those auditing from other departments.
Perhaps noticing that Gu Xiaonuan was actually paying attention, or perhaps intimidated by Lu Yichen’s initial remark, the boy sitting next to her didn’t try to speak to her again.
“Alright, that concludes the lecture content. The next five minutes will be for Q&A,” Lu Yichen said, standing at the lectern. He tidied his lecture notes and looked down at the students with a smile.
The boy sitting next to Gu Xiaonuan lightly tapped his fingers on the desk and pushed a notebook in front of her.
Gu Xiaonuan was a bit surprised. Inside were his lecture notes, recorded in great detail.
A few lines of small text were written at the bottom of the page.
“I saw how focused you were. These are the notes I took; if you need them, feel free to take a look.”
Gu Xiaonuan looked up, and the boy gave her a rather shy smile. He took the notebook back and wrote another line with his pen.
“I’m a sophomore studying Environmental Science. My name is Liu Qi. I was wondering if I might have the honor of getting to know you.”
At the end, he carefully sketched a smiley face.
Gu Xiaonuan looked at the neat handwriting and the boy’s shy, expectant eyes. She took his pen and wrote two words on the notebook.
“I’m sorry.”
Liu Qi looked like he wanted to say something more, but just then, someone raised their hand. “Senior, can we ask anything?”
Lu Yichen smiled. He looked at the student who asked the question. “I know what you want to ask. Do I have a girlfriend?”
As soon as he said it, the students burst into laughter. The girl who had raised her hand spoke up even more boldly, “Yeah! Senior, do you actually have a girlfriend? If you really do, how come we never see her with you?”
Lu Yichen adjusted his glasses. “Who said my girlfriend isn’t with me?”
“But it’s been so long, and she’s never come to the school to find you.”
Lu Yichen looked up. “She did come. She’s sitting right here, listening to my lecture.”
The students all began looking around. Who? Which one was Lu Yichen’s girlfriend? Where was the person from the photo whose face hadn’t been shown?
“Say hello, or I’m going to be interrogated until the end of time, girlfriend.” Lu Yichen’s smiling gaze shifted to the back row. Gu Xiaonuan, sitting there, gave a small wave.
Seeing this, Liu Qi, who was sitting right next to her, understood instantly. She was actually the girlfriend of the highly popular Lu Yichen.
Everyone turned to look back. When they saw Gu Xiaonuan’s face, someone couldn’t help but shout out.
“Holy crap, she’s gorgeous.”
“Is she some un-debuted celebrity? She’s seriously beautiful.”
The bell rang for the end of class. Lu Yichen stood at the lectern and lightly tapped the table. “Alright everyone, class is dismissed.”
The students filed out, many of them turning back to look at Gu Xiaonuan. With looks like that, they were a perfect match. The reason she didn’t come looking for Lu Yichen was probably because she was confident in their relationship.
“Senior, your girlfriend is so pretty! Wishing you two a long life together!”
Many students from the History Department offered their blessings. The corners of Lu Yichen’s mouth curled up. “Thank you.”
“Senior, Senior! She’s so pretty, does she have any sisters? Introduce us!”
The guys crowded around him. Lu Yichen laughed and patted them on the shoulders. “Forget it. She’s an only child.”
The students walked out chatting and laughing. Soon, only Lu Yichen remained in the classroom. Gu Xiaonuan stood up from the back and walked down to him.
“The effect was pretty good,” she said as she reached the podium. “No one should suspect anything now.”
“Let’s hope so.” Lu Yichen gave a wry smile. “Word of mouth should take care of it. If you walk around campus with me for a bit later, that should just about do it.”
Gu Xiaonuan nodded. Lu Yichen looked at her made-up features, leaning his upper body forward and resting his chin on his hand. “Did you put on makeup specifically for me?”
His gaze swept down to Gu Xiaonuan’s ring finger. “You’re not wearing your ring either?”
Gu Xiaonuan gave a soft hum of affirmation. She was here in the capacity of his girlfriend; naturally, she couldn’t wear anything that would give her true identity away.
“I need to head back to the History Department building now. Let’s go together.”
Lu Yichen picked up his lecture notes and pushed the door open to leave, only for the opening door to collide with someone about to enter. There was a loud thud.
“Are you okay!”
Lu Yichen quickly rushed out to help the girl who had been hit. Her nose was bleeding from the impact.
“I’m fine. I just came back because I wanted to ask Senior a few questions.” The girl covered her nose, her face flushed bright red.
“Are you a student in the History Department? Let me take you to the infirmary to get that looked at first.” Lu Yichen supported her by the arm, but the girl shook her head repeatedly.
“No, no, it’s really not necessary.”
Seeing her refusal, Lu Yichen could only sigh. “Then go take care of it yourself first. Here is my contact information; you can come to me with questions anytime.”
“Thank you, Senior. I’ll be going then.”
The girl covered her nose, looking at Gu Xiaonuan with a slight blush. “Senior, your girlfriend is really beautiful.”
“Thank you.” Lu Yichen waved at her and watched her leave.
Gu Xiaonuan witnessed the entire exchange from the side. He had given his contact information to someone else so generously-this was something the real Lu Yichen would never do.
They were very similar on the surface, but the longer she spent with him, the more she realized they were not the same person at all.
Gu Xiaonuan walked beside Lu Yichen. Looking at his handsome profile behind his glasses, her gaze became a bit dazed.
Lu Yichen only wore glasses when he was writing.
His handsome face, which had been looking forward, suddenly turned toward her. He leaned down slightly to get closer. Gu Xiaonuan instinctively tried to step back, but he gently caught her by the shoulder.
“Teacher Gu, you’re staying so far away from me. It doesn’t look like we’re dating at all.”
His face flushed slightly. “Stay closer to me. It’ll look more convincing.”
Gu Xiaonuan realized she had been maintaining a distance while walking beside him and nodded. Lu Yichen smiled, watching as she stepped closer to his side.
Just as the two of them walked out of the Literature and History Building, several figures spotted them and immediately approached. It was the group of graduate students they had met last time.
“Whoa, I didn’t think it was true! She really came!”
The moment the four of them saw Gu Xiaonuan, their eyes lit up.
“I thought they were exaggerating. Tsk, tsk, she really is beautiful. No wonder you don’t have eyes for any other girls.”
Lu Yichen shook his head with a smile. “You’re exaggerating.”
“It’s a rare treat to meet your girlfriend. Let’s have lunch together.” Two of the guys waved at Gu Xiaonuan. “Our school cafeteria is actually quite good… What’s your girlfriend’s name?”
“My name is Gu Xiaonuan,” she said directly. Few students would ever pay attention to the full name of the library auntie.
“Xiaonuan, that’s such a lovely name.” The two guys laughed. Lu Yichen reached out, gently wrapping an arm around her shoulder and pulling her closer to his side.
“That name is for my ears only.” He looked at his classmates with a smile. “Call her Gu. No negotiations.”
