Chapter 11

“So you’re saying you didn’t tell Yuan Yuan before you acted?” Xu Luo’s mouth hung open in shock.

I rubbed my nose guiltily. “To ensure everything went perfectly, only the five of us knew.”

At the time, Yuan Yuan had vaguely realized that Master and the others had left a backup plan. Whenever we were alone, he would constantly remind me to prioritize my own safety.

“If things really go south, Senior Sister, just take me with you,” the young man-already the Immortal Path Leader by then-had said on our final night, burying his head in the crook of my neck just as he had when we were teenagers.

I had only laughed. “Don’t talk nonsense. Once this is all over, we’ll go back to Qixue Peak.”

Yuan Yuan hadn’t doubted me for a second. He leaned in to kiss me. “Alright. When the time comes, we’ll build a few small boats for the lake, and then Senior Sister…” He started whispering all sorts of nonsense into my ear.

He never once suspected I would lie to him.

To this day, I still remember the look of utter disbelief in his eyes and that pained, resentful cry of “Zhizhi” when I knocked him unconscious.

From a certain perspective, I had betrayed Yuan Yuan, a man who was willing to die with me.

I felt a pang of guilt.

“Well, there’s no need to have such a high moral compass,” Xu Luo said. “As a woman, you live a much happier life if you’re a bit heartless.”

“Our Zhizhi has such great luck in the five elements; you aren’t lacking in anything. So what if you’re lacking a little bit of virtue?”

I added in a small voice, trying to redeem myself, “Actually, I did leave a letter when I left.”

“Oh? What did you write?”

“A Contract Dissolution Document. So, strictly speaking, he’s a free man now. If he wants to pursue someone else legitimately, I have no objections and fully support him,” I said solemnly.

“A divorce notice?” Xu Luo silently stopped mid-motion, sunflower seed in hand.

She said with genuine feeling, “Sister, you really are a piece of work.”

Me: ?

She quickly adjusted her expression. “It’s fine. Luckily, I have double standards.”

She reached her dirty, seed-covered hand toward my waist. “Now, don’t think about anything, Sister. Just have a good sleep.”

My vision blurred, and the strength drained from my body.

“Ah Luo?”

In that moment, I deeply understood how Yuan Yuan must have felt back then.

Karma really does come back to bite you fast.

When I woke up again, I was trapped on a small boat at Qixue Peak.

Yuan Yuan was sitting cross-legged at the bow, his back to me.

“Where’s Ah Luo?” Weak and powerless, I could only reach out and desperately grab the hem of his robe.

“Does Senior Sister only want to talk about outsiders with me?” He turned around to look down at me, his eyes dark and somber.

Instinct told me that now was probably not the best time to bring up that one-sided farewell.

I said, “You might not believe this, but I have amnesia.”

“Oh. I don’t believe you.”

Me: …

Fair enough. Since he had teamed up with Xu Luo, he had likely overheard a good portion of our previous conversation. Naturally, he knew I remembered everything.

I decided to just give up. “Fine. Then what do you want?”

“So Senior Sister can feel guilty after all.” Yuan Yuan let out a morbid laugh. “I thought certain people felt no remorse at all and were ready to just walk away again.”

“Senior Sister knows me best. You tell me-what kind of punishment would satisfy me?”

Oh no. It had been a thousand years, and my once elegant and noble Junior Brother seemed to have turned dark.

“Are you sure you want me to say it?” I scanned him slowly.

“Then I say we should just forget about it.”

Yuan Yuan: ?

His composure broke instantly, a vein throbbing at his temple. “Xu Zhi, can’t you just say a few nice things to coax me?”

“Then stop Xu Luo first.”

“No.”

“Yuan Yuan!” I threatened.

Yuan Yuan said coldly, “Senior Sister, there are some things I cannot promise you.”

“I know Senior Sister is a person who sees things in black and white. But Senior Sister, it has been a thousand years.” He lowered his head, hiding his snow-white hair beneath his veiled hat. “If it weren’t for a stroke of luck, I would have done things that you would find even more unforgivable.”

“Back then, I used every ounce of my strength just to barely preserve a single wisp of your Soul Flame. I watched it… I watched it flicker for a thousand years.”

He smiled. “Senior Sister, this time, I won’t be so obedient.”
