His White Moonlight Doesn't Want to Die - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I went out onto the balcony again and used the streetlights to make out the scene below.
Because only the small door on the right side of the iron gate at the main entrance had been opened, everyone trying to escape had gotten jammed up going in and out.
Bodies were piled all over the ground.
Most of them had already turned into zombies and were wandering around.
A small number were probably too badly mangled to get a chance at “revival.”
Shen Yan stood beside me and suddenly said in an odd tone, “It feels like we’re the only two people left in the world.”
I pointed at the figure jumping around in the building across from us.
“You can’t see that whole entire person bouncing over there?”
Shen Yan was silent for two seconds before asking, “What’s he trying to say?”
“Maybe he wants to meet up with us?”
“If he grows wings, we can consider letting him fly over.”
I jabbed him with my elbow.
“Quit being so sarcastic.”
I waved at the other building too.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed something moving in the shadows downstairs.
Looking closer, I saw several people huddling nervously together, trying to get out.
They crept along the base of the wall, constantly glancing left and right.
Not one of them looked up.
A zombie was hanging precariously by a second-floor window.
I waved like crazy, trying to get their attention and make them go back.
But no one so much as glanced our way.
Shen Yan’s cold voice sounded by my ear, like that of a judge.
“Rushing to their deaths.”
At last, the zombie dangling from the second floor fell with a heavy thud. The sound of bones cracking was especially clear in the quiet.
The group was scared out of their minds by the thing that had dropped from the sky. They instantly lost all sense of direction and scattered in every direction, screaming.
In an instant, every zombie nearby was drawn over. They lunged at them at top speed, each with a different twisted posture.
I couldn’t bear to watch anymore. I looked away and tried my best to ignore the screams coming from below.
The guy in the building across from us withdrew too.
Shen Yan, however, stared unblinkingly at the bloody scene below. Then he suddenly grabbed my wrist and said in a low voice, “While they’re distracted, let’s go to the room across the hall.”
“Okay.”
The dorm room door was opened as carefully as possible, though it still creaked loudly.
Shen Yan crossed to the opposite side in one stride and used a card to work at the crack of the door.
I looked around and didn’t see any zombies for the moment.
Shen Yan said, “It’s locked from the inside.”
My heart sank. I pulled him into the room next door.
“This one’s open. There might be stuff inside.”
The second I entered, my face scrunched up.
The smell of blood inside was thick. A ruined half-corpse lay on the floor, its features too destroyed to recognize.
Judging by the clothes and body type, it should have been someone I knew.
I covered my nose and mouth and started rummaging through drawers and cabinets. In the end, I only found two packs of spicy gluten strips.
Shen Yan was watching the door.
“In this weather, these bodies will start rotting and stinking at the latest by the day after tomorrow, producing toxic gases. They’ll also attract huge numbers of mosquitoes and insects. We can’t stay here for long.”
I agreed.
“Let’s collect some food and tools first. The government has to have shelters or something. If that doesn’t work, we can hide on a mountain. At least we won’t be stunk to death.”
“We can head for the countryside. Fewer people, better air, and there’ll be vegetables to eat.”
I needed to stall until the time the bullet screen said Shen Yan would awaken his ability.
That way, our chances of survival would greatly increase.
Whether Shen Yan had ulterior motives toward me or not, I was clinging to the male lead’s thigh no matter what.
I didn’t have an ability, so there was no way I was going solo.
I walked to the balcony. From this angle, I could see the teaching buildings and the road in the distance.
Corpses were still everywhere. It was unbearable to look at.
Another scream rang out from who knew where…
Goosebumps rose all over my body.
When I turned my head, I suddenly found myself staring wide-eyed at a head sticking out from the neighboring dorm’s balcony.
I knew this person. His name was Zhou Bin. He wore black-framed glasses and liked secretly cooking in his dorm room.
I asked, “You were in your dorm this whole time? Why didn’t you say anything earlier?”
“You guys didn’t say anything either. I thought you were monsters. How would I dare make a sound?”
“How many people are on your side?”
“Just me.” His face crumpled like he was about to cry. “The others all died on the way back.”
I quickly said, “We’ll come over. Open the door for us, okay? There’s strength in numbers. With three people, we’ll have someone to discuss things with.”
Shen Yan picked up from the doorway, “No. There are zombies outside. They were probably drawn over when we opened the door just now.”
I looked through the peephole and sure enough, I saw a zombie charge into my dorm room and crash around inside with a series of clangs. There were two more wandering outside.
I went back to the balcony and estimated the distance.
“We’ll climb over from the balcony.”
Shen Yan’s gaze lowered and landed on the area around my butt. “Can you manage?”
I gritted my teeth. “You have the nerve to ask?”
That kick had left me limping even now.
But if I ignored the pain in the flesh, it wouldn’t affect climbing too much.
Shen Yan twisted and knotted the bedsheets into a thick, long rope, then tossed it to Zhou Bin and had him tie it to something sturdy. After that, he tied the other end to the drainage pipe on our side.
Then the two of us grabbed the bedsheet, stepped onto the external air-conditioning unit, and successfully climbed over.
Zhou Bin and I were fairly familiar with each other.
The moment I landed, he let out a wail and hugged me, sobbing.
“That was fucking terrifying, holy shit! My legs are still so weak they haven’t recovered!”
With a dark expression, Shen Yan grabbed Zhou Bin by the back of his collar and hauled him away, his tone unfriendly.
“Don’t go throwing yourself at people while you’re holding a knife.”
I looked down and sure enough, there was a kitchen cleaver in his hand. I couldn’t help feeling amused.
“The big inspection last week actually failed to find your controlled weapon?”
Zhou Bin wiped his tears.
“I hid it inside my pillow. I’ve also got two fruit knives. Do you guys want them?”
