I grew slightly nervous when the patron added that his lord had “been extremely irritable lately,” “often injured the people around him by accident,” and possessed “the strength of a ferocious beast.”

The interstellar age had to be different from my own… but surely this man did not keep a black bear at home?

In the end, I decided to try.

I had already taken the money, after all.

Early the next morning, a soft knock came at my door.

I drew a deep breath, gritted my teeth, and pulled it open.

I had prepared myself for the worst. Even if a bear with jaws dripping blood was waiting outside, I would stay calm, greet it nicely…

Then drop to my knees and beg it not to eat me.

To my surprise, there was no terrifying beast outside.

As the door slowly opened, I found a little white dog sitting obediently inside a box.

Its fur was rather mussed, but it was still as fluffy as a ball of snow.

The puppy watched me without blinking, its eyes an icy blue. Once the door opened all the way, it even gave me a courteous little nod like a perfect gentleman.

The patron called this a violent, man-eating beast?

This was clearly my sweet little angel!

My heart melted on the spot. I swept up the box, puppy and all, and hugged it to my chest.

“Baby, didn’t your lord come with you? Why are you all alone outside my door?”

At the word *baby*, the little white dog’s blue eyes widened in disbelief.

It shook its head and lifted one front paw with almost human indignation, apparently trying to stop me.

Unfortunately, its chubby leg was too short. Its protest failed, leaving it helpless as I repeated “baby” over and over.

While its emotions ran through a remarkable range, I quietly examined it.

The patron had left a letter in the box, proving that this puppy really was the ferocious beast he wanted me to care for.

But no matter how I looked at it, the little dog in my arms resembled a young Samoyed.

It was not an exact match, and the eye color was unusual. Still, this was the interstellar age. Who said puppies could not evolve?

I did not dwell on those details. Once I realized it was nowhere near as savage as the patron had claimed, I rewarded it with a rub on the head.

“You didn’t bite or bark. What a good baby.”

The fake Samoyed, who had only just resigned himself to being called *baby*, was suddenly patted on the head.

“…”

The dignified little fellow toppled backward into the box with a soft *plop*.

It covered its head with both chubby front paws and began hiding from reality.

Only its thin, flattened ears had turned a little red.

It looked almost drunk.

The patron had not told me the Samoyed’s name. Calling it “my lord” was probably like a cat owner calling their pet “master”—a special term of affection.

For convenience, I temporarily named him Snowy.

Snowy was an exceptionally sensible baby.

Apart from being a picky eater who refused plain boiled meat without seasoning, he was perfectly obedient.

He could even use the bathroom by himself. In fact, he handled the smart toilet better than I did.

He was nothing like the creature his patron had described.

I had asked what sort of behavior the man wanted me to train into Snowy, but he gave no clear answer. He only asked me to soothe Snowy’s emotions.

In truth, Snowy was far more emotionally stable than this penniless woman.

Between the two of us, he seemed much more like the mature, dependable adult.

Still, the patron was my first client, and he had casually showered my stream with a hundred thousand credits.

Even if he had not demanded results, I wanted to do the job well.

I took Snowy’s beautiful head between my hands and gazed into those icy-blue eyes.

“Baby Snowy, children your age need to study hard so they can find a job and feed themselves one day.”

“That means if you want to afford jerky when you grow up, Big Sister has to start your special training now.”

Snowy: “?”

He tilted his head. A trace of resignation crossed his eyes.

But when I held out my hand for a high five, he obediently placed his paw in my palm.

Smiling, I wrapped my fingers around his little paw and shook it up and down.

“Such a good boy. Then it’s settled.”
