Chapter 161

After learning the truth, Ye Susheng seemed to lose her soul. She couldn’t react at all.

She turned Hua Suihe’s words over and over in her mind. She understood them, yet at the same time she didn’t. What Hua Hua meant was that eliminating Thriller might also mean eliminating her memories.

She wanted to scoff at the idea. How could she possibly lose the memories of loving Hua Hua?

But what if? A possibility, a probability, a risk… any of them was more than she could bear.

Ye Susheng had no idea how she made it back to the bedroom. She held Hua Suihe’s hand, and the trembling of her fingertips laid bare the fear in her heart.

Hua Suihe let herself be pulled along, at a loss for words for a moment. In the end, she sat with her on the bed and quietly held her.

Hua Suihe felt suffocated, but she didn’t dare cry. If she cried, Ye Zi would definitely be unable to hold back her own tears. The two of them would look like a pair of doomed lovers.

After who knew how long they had held each other, Ye Susheng broke the silence, her voice hoarse. “Hua Hua, if I’m no longer me, if I no longer love you, then kill me.”

“What nonsense are you saying?” Hua Suihe covered her mouth and glared at her. “Stop thinking such unlucky thoughts.”

“I’m still waiting for our wedding. Aren’t you looking forward to it?”

“I’m waiting to have a wedding with you, to get our marriage certificate. I don’t want to hear your last words or your goodbyes. I don’t like them.”

At that, Ye Susheng smiled soundlessly. After a long while, she said with dark humor, “So this is what it feels like to cling to each other while waiting for the end of the world.”

Then she grew dejected again. “Hua Hua, it would have been better if the one you loved wasn’t me.”

Because Hua Hua loved her, she had to go through so many layers of suffering. If an accident really did happen, Ye Susheng could simply die and be done with it, leaving Hua Hua all alone in this world, lonely and miserable.

It was all her fault.

Hua Suihe grabbed both her ears and said through gritted teeth, “Idiot. There you go saying stupid things again.”

For the next two days, Ye Susheng and Hua Suihe lived as they usually did. Their nights became even more intimate, expressing love through their bodies as they spent every moment reluctant to part.

Time was painfully short. Two days passed quickly, and they had no choice but to face the reality they had briefly escaped from.

Hua Suihe curled up in Ye Susheng’s arms, refusing to let her hide away by herself. Sitting in her lap, she opened the livestream.

Her last private message with Gu Gu was still the one Gu Gu had sent asking her to think it over.

She watched the number of viewers in the livestream room climb higher and higher. She watched Gu Gu come in and spam gifts like usual. She watched the comments begin to scroll faster and faster…

All of it flashed before her eyes like a revolving lantern, stealing away her courage to open Gu Gu’s private messages.

[Gu Gu: You damned girl, why haven’t you streamed these past two days? You scared me to death.]

[Gu Gu: I wanted to tell you some good news and make you happy, but I never got the chance.]

[Gu Gu: The programmers rewrote the complete game code, replacing the original source code that had malicious code in it. After that, they just need to implant Ye Susheng’s code, and the problem can be solved.]

[Gu Gu: Are you listening? Say something. Once you agree, they’re going to carry it out.]

[Gu Gu: Replacing the code will affect the game’s operation. Prepare yourself.]

Hua Suihe read it word by word, sentence by sentence. Then, in disbelief, she read it several more times. With surprise and joy tangled together in her chest, she asked, “Does that mean this won’t affect Ye Susheng?”

[Gu Gu: Ye Susheng’s code isn’t missing anything. In theory, she as a person won’t be affected.]

[Gu Gu: But all the game’s underlying code is being replaced, so the impact will be wide-ranging.]

“As long as the person before me is still the person before me, I don’t care about anything else.”

Gu Gu didn’t reply again. As Hua Suihe waited for a response, she instinctively tightened her hold on Ye Susheng in her arms. Belatedly overwhelmed with joy, she started to cry and wanted to tell her the news.

But before she could speak, everything before her eyes blurred and distorted. Her arms were suddenly empty, and she fell into a world that was blank on all sides.

Hua Suihe reached out in terror, feeling around beside her, but she touched no one. The livestream had also closed automatically.

Was this… the replacement of the code affecting the operation of the game world?

Then where was her Ye Zi?

In that blank world, Hua Suihe had no sense of time. All she knew was that the endless waiting made her restless and anxious, and she was even more worried about Ye Susheng’s situation.
The white world gradually regained its color, shifting from illusion back into reality, and Hua Suihe reappeared at home.

“Ye Zi!”

The first thing she did was look for Ye Susheng. She wasn’t in the bedroom, nor was she in the living room.

Barefoot, Hua Suihe ran to the kitchen, the study, and the gaming room, but she couldn’t find a trace of Ye Susheng anywhere. Panic swelled endlessly in her chest.

“Ye Zi… Ye Susheng!”

Hua Suihe stumbled to the front door and yanked the lock open, about to rush outside, when a hand caught her wrist from behind and pulled her back.

The door shut with a thud, and her heart trembled with it.

Ye Susheng stood there in a pale yellow little dress, her skin smooth as cream, her makeup exquisite, her white curls neatly styled. Her gaze was lively, the whites and reds of her eyes clear and distinct.

It was Ye Susheng, no longer in an Anomalization state.

“Hua Hua, I finally became pretty. Now I can take a beautiful marriage certificate photo with Hua Hua~”

“Hua Hua, my Spawn Point turned back into the little wooden cabin, so it took me a while to get back. Can we change it back here?”

“Hua Hua, tomorrow’s wedding still counts. We can get married!”

Ye Susheng could barely contain her joy, chattering away nonstop. Before she could speak again, Hua Suihe threw herself into her arms and held tightly to the person in front of her, clinging as if they could never be separated. The feeling of losing her and getting her back made Hua Suihe tremble uncontrollably.

It really was Ye Zi. Thank goodness it was Ye Zi.

“The wedding counts. It counts…”

But very soon, Hua Suihe understood where the impact Gu Gu had mentioned had shown itself.

The diamond rings they had bought the day before yesterday had vanished into thin air.

The wedding venue hadn’t been decorated. When she asked the company, they said no reservation had ever been made.

The subway was running normally.

Area A had also returned to its original state, full of the presence of living people.

The Anomaly had disappeared. The Thriller Contamination Polluted Zone no longer existed.

The humans who had become Anomaly, and the players who had died in a dungeon, had all been revived.

This world had become a normal world without Anomaly.

Of course, with the exception of Ye Susheng. The black mist would still sneak out to take advantage of Hua Hua, but Ye Susheng could now be seen by humans.

Hua Suihe opened her phone and saw that her friends were still in her contacts, and their chat histories had not disappeared.

After hesitating for a while, she sent Yi Shuang a message.

[Hua Suihe: Do you still remember me?]

[Yi Shuang: ??]

[Hua Suihe: You really don’t remember me?]

[Yi Shuang: Hua Suihe, what nonsense are you talking about?]

Oh. She still remembered.

The changes to this world hadn’t affected her friends’ memories. That was enough.

Rewriting a game in three days was impossible even if you worked yourself into cirrhosis, so during the recoding process, the undamaged code had simply been copied and pasted. While the malicious code, meaning Thriller, had been deleted, the copied code hadn’t changed, so their memories hadn’t been affected either.

As for the code that had been invaded by malicious code during the game, all of it had been rewritten. So the people involved in that rewritten code had lost their memories related to Thriller.

[Yi Shuang: Oh, right. Is the wedding tomorrow still happening as scheduled?]

Right. The wedding company had been reset and didn’t remember, but her friends did.

She had to let them know it was being postponed.

Hua Suihe kissed Ye Susheng on the cheek. “It’s okay. We’ll get the marriage certificate first. As for the wedding, didn’t you say before that it was too rushed? We can plan it slowly.”

When it came to getting the marriage certificate, Hua Hua had been the one urging Ye Zi before. Now, Ye Zi was the anxious one.

She was anxious to take their ID cards and get it done.

Hua Suihe even started a brief livestream so her dear bestie Gu Gu could witness this moment too.

[Gu Gu: The wedding must be livestreamed.]

Just then, Ye Susheng held up the little red booklet stamped with the official seal and presented it in front of Hua Suihe. The page with their names and their photo was fully displayed on the livestream screen.

Hua Suihe smiled and replied, “I will.”

(Behind the camera, there are still chapters of life that belong only to them.)
