Marry the NPC with Money, Wife Comes Knocking - Chapter 24
In the classroom, after the teacher hid under the desk once, their temperament became much milder. Throughout the lesson, the teacher didn’t pose any tricky questions to make things difficult for the students. Thanks to the classmates’ cautious attitude, there were no casualties by the end of class.
However, Hua Suihe, who had been pushed out of the classroom, would technically be considered as having left early, and it was very likely that she had already been killed by the Anomaly.
Once players regained the freedom to speak, Water Cube came over to question Yi Shuang. “Hey, why did you push Hua Suihe out of the classroom? Did she do something to you?”
“You should be asking yourself that.” Yi Shuang looked up at him with a glance that clearly suggested she thought he was an idiot. “Why did you drag her here?”
“I couldn’t just let her skip class and die downstairs, could I?” Water Cube argued, holding his ground. “She forgot the rules and didn’t want to attend class, fine, but how could you push her out of the classroom?”
Yi Shuang couldn’t be bothered to argue. “Yeah, yeah, you meant well.”
She picked up her book and pen from the desk, stood up, and clicked her tongue in annoyance at the person blocking her way. “Move.”
Water Cube was a veteran player who had participated in several instances. Every time, he ran into Yi Shuang and knew she was not someone he could afford to provoke. Under her gaze, he could only step aside reluctantly.
Yi Shuang was the first to leave the classroom.
Water Cube noticed the girl next to him looked uneasy. He lowered his eyes in thought for a moment, then patted her on the shoulder.
“Do you know her?”
Gua Gua, Yi Shuang’s roommate, replied in a low voice, her face pale, “Yeah, I’m her roommate. My name is Gua Gua.”
“I’m Water Cube. She’s always a loner, cold and indifferent. You’d better not get too close to her.” After this advice, he kindly added, “You’re a new player, right? If you need anything, you can come to me for help.”
“Okay, thank you.” Gua Gua didn’t trust Yi Shuang’s character. Water Cube had kindly saved a player, only for Yi Shuang to push her out to die. Who knew if one day she might suddenly stab her in the back, too?
Facing thirty days of danger alone, something was bound to happen. Sticking together for warmth was always safer.
At this moment, Hua Suihe – who the ordinary players believed to be dead – was actually having dinner in the school cafeteria with Ye Susheng (called Ye).
Hua Suihe ate most of the meal.
In the past, Ye Susheng would buy groceries from somewhere unknown and cook for her at home, but given the special circumstances, it was better to settle dinner in the school cafeteria. Fortunately, Ye Susheng had a meal card she could use.
Ye Susheng led Hua Suihe to a random food counter. There weren’t many people in the cafeteria at this hour, so every counter was free.
After Hua Suihe picked up her tray of food, the cafeteria lady immediately closed the window for a break and went to stir the soup.
The cafeteria food tasted just as bad as it did when Hua Suihe was a student, but it wasn’t so bad that she couldn’t swallow it. She could make do and eat her fill.
Hua Suihe took the tissue that Ye handed her. “Ye, I won’t keep you company at work tonight. I’ll head back first in a bit.”
She really couldn’t stay up all night with her. Remembering that she had class tomorrow morning from nine to ten-thirty, Hua Suihe hesitated. “It’s just a bit far, going back and forth. It would be nice if I could stay on campus.”
“Hua Suihe wants to live on campus?” Ye Susheng’s eyes brightened. “You can apply for a staff dormitory.”
“Let’s ask about it first.” When Hua Suihe was in college, she did livestreaming and always rented her own place. She had no experience living on campus.
“Not today, though. It’s too late to move in now, and the staff are probably off work.”
The clock on the wall ticked, its hands pointing to six in the evening.
Classes were over, and a large group of students poured into the cafeteria. Curious and unfamiliar gazes were cast their way, intentionally or not.
Hua Suihe (Hua Hua) stood up with her tray. “Let’s go, there are so many people.”
People came and went, bringing with them an unpleasant odor.
The two of them went together to the food disposal area, dumped the leftovers they couldn’t finish, and stacked their trays neatly.
Just as they were about to go wash their hands, a wall of bodies blocked Hua Suihe’s way.
It was a cafeteria worker in her uniform, holding a metal serving spoon, glaring at her with a sinister tone. “No wasting food. Did you just dump your leftovers?”
Hua Suihe was startled by her aggressive manner and took half a step back. Su Sheng took her hand and answered for her, “Just some bones we couldn’t eat.”
The worker’s dull, cloudy eyes swept over them, then she forced a stiff smile. “If you can’t finish, you can ask me to serve you less. Don’t waste food next time.”
Hua Suihe nodded repeatedly, showing she understood.
The cafeteria worker moved aside to let them pass.
Su Sheng walked Hua Suihe toward the school gate. Hua Suihe was a little distracted, recalling what had just happened.
“Hua Hua.”
Hua Suihe turned her head a beat late. “Hm?”
“Once you move into the school tomorrow, I’ll cook for you here. No more cafeteria food.”
Hua Suihe’s eyes lit up. “Really?”
Su Sheng promised enthusiastically, “Of course! I want to cook for you forever.”
“Since you don’t like cafeteria food, we just won’t eat it.”
This job at school had thrown off their usual routine; normally, Su Sheng could cook three meals a day for Hua Suihe at home.
“Then I’m really looking forward to moving into the school.” Hua Suihe stood in front of her, cupped her face in both hands, and tipped her head up to kiss her on the chin.
Su Sheng obediently lowered her head, so Hua Suihe kissed her a second time, this time on the lips.
“Alright, be good. See you tomorrow, I’m heading home now~”
Hua Suihe let go of her and walked energetically toward the school gate, waiting under the bus stop sign. When she looked back, Su Sheng was leaning on the railing like a puppy, gazing longingly in her direction.
The bus arrived.
Hua Suihe waved at her, blew a kiss, gestured for her to go home, and boarded the bus.
Su Sheng watched as the bus disappeared down the road, the disappointment in her eyes turning tangible as she slumped over the railing, unwilling to move.
The security guard in the booth poked his head out curiously, rarely seeing Su Sheng looking so lovesick.
Night fell suddenly, and the campus streetlights flickered on.
Su Sheng slowly straightened up. The thick mist of night swirled around her, condensing into a long-handled scythe that lay quietly in her palm.
The security guard quickly pulled his head back and shut the glass window at lightning speed.
Whenever the scythe appeared, blood would be spilled. He had no desire to be the first victim.
Su Sheng’s figure melted into the darkness.
“Did you hear? The Plague Worm was killed by Su Sheng.”
“Why did it mess with Su Sheng in the first place?”
“It tried to plant a Plague Worm inside Su Sheng’s partner – our new etiquette teacher.”
“Wow, so that tiny human died?”
Upon hearing this, a group of mischievous children responded with excitement and curiosity.
“If she dies, all the Anomalies will be buried with her.”
A thick mist appeared on the podium. When it dissipated, a woman stood there, gripping a scythe, her face sinister.
The chatter below instantly vanished; everyone fell silent with fear.
Minor Anomalies truly possess a naive recklessness that Adult Anomalies lack, which is why a child like the Plague Worm dared to provoke Su Sheng.
