My Ghost Husband Is Ridiculously Overpowered - Chapter 2

  3. Chapter 2

Xue Man and I were bound in a ghost marriage.

Some families arranged ghost marriages for their own reasons; others used them to suppress a restless spirit.

Ours, however, had been arranged to save my life.

When I was eighteen, I fell gravely ill. My family tried everything before finally bringing in a Taoist priest.

He said a ghost marriage might save me, provided the ghost was willing to protect me for ten years.

After making his calculations, he determined that Xue Man and I were the best match.

But what ghost would do so much for a stranger?

When Xue Man was summoned to my side, he fought against it and refused to agree.

Then, on the seventh day, just as he was about to leave for reincarnation, he abruptly changed his mind.

To this day, he has never told me why.

But I know I would have died long ago without him. So no matter how he treats me, I accept it.

Besides, having a powerful and gorgeous ghost for a wife is a blessing, all right?

“Heh-heh. Wifey…”

My lovely dream was cut short by a slap that jolted me awake.

My eyes flew open, and my mouth moved faster than my brain.

“What is it? What’s wrong, wifey?”

A twenty-centimeter plush doll with chubby little fists was sitting on my chest.

Xue Man folded his arms and glared at me.

“I thought you were dead.”

I scooped up the doll.

His tone was full of displeasure, but the plushie’s beady eyes made him look adorable.

“Go get a regular job. You’re not allowed to summon spirits anymore.”

I whined, hoping to muddle my way out of the conversation.

Xue Man refused to let me. He grabbed my ear and gave me another sound beating.

Covering my face, I cowered on the bed.

“Wifey, stop hitting me. You’re going to beat me to death.”

Xue Man was furious, but he also had no idea what to do with me.

He sat cross-legged in my palm.

“You could get a normal job, so why won’t you?”

Because summoning spirits was the fastest way to make the most money.

My ghost marriage had given me an unusual constitution and a natural gift for this work.

I needed a great deal of money. With money, I could give to charity and accumulate merit.

Then Xue Man might have a chance to reenter the cycle of reincarnation instead of being bound to me forever as a lonely wandering ghost.

I was terrified that I might die in some accident and leave him all alone in this world.

But I did not dare tell him.

He would be furious. Then he would beat me up and stop me.

My wife was softhearted. If he had given up reincarnation for a stranger, he would never accept what I was doing now.

When I remained silent, Xue Man lost his temper.

He raised one round plush hand and pummeled my face with all his might.

“Yao Que, are you trying to make me die of anger? One of these days, I swear I’ll stop looking after you. Then some malicious ghost can eat you for all I care!”

I rubbed the doll’s belly, and Xue Man’s eyes narrowed in pleasure.

He shared the plushie’s senses, and he loved belly rubs. He was as cute as a kitten.

I kissed the doll.

“I’ll find a job, wifey. But I’ve already accepted two more cases. Let me finish them, and then I’ll quit for good. All right?”

He was still unhappy, so I turned on the charm.

“Please, hubby? I promise I’ll stop after these two. I swear.”

Xue Man reluctantly agreed.
