My Husband Is a Sickly Beauty NPC in a Horror Game - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I went back out onto the balcony and used the streetlights to make out the scene below.
Because only the small door on the right side of the iron gate at the main entrance had been opened, everyone had gotten jammed together trying to flee in and out.
Bodies were piled all over the ground.
Most of them had already turned into zombies and were wandering around.
A small number were probably too mangled to get the chance to “revive.”
Shen Yan stood beside me. Suddenly, in a strange tone, he said, “It feels like we’re the only two people left in the world.”
I pointed at the figure bouncing around in the building across from us.
“You can’t see that whole grown man jumping over there?”
Shen Yan fell silent for two seconds, then said, “What is he trying to say?”
“Maybe he wants to meet up with us?”
“If he grows wings, we can consider letting him fly over.”
I jabbed him with my elbow.
“Quit being so sarcastic.”
I waved toward the opposite building too.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed something moving in the shadows downstairs.
When I looked closer, I saw a few people creeping along, trying to get out.
They hugged the base of the wall, glancing left and right.
But not one of them looked up.
A zombie was hanging precariously by a second-floor window.
I waved like crazy, trying to get their attention and make them go back.
But no one so much as glanced this way.
Shen Yan’s cold voice sounded by my ear, like that of a judge delivering a verdict.
“Rushing to their deaths.”
At last, the zombie dangling from the second floor dropped with a thud. The sound of bones cracking was especially clear in the quiet.
The group was scared senseless by the thing falling from the sky. They instantly lost their heads, screaming as they scattered in every direction.
In an instant, every zombie nearby was attracted over, lunging at them at full speed in all sorts of twisted postures.
I couldn’t bear to keep watching. I turned my gaze away and tried my best to ignore the screams coming from below.
The guy in the opposite building also shrank back inside.
Shen Yan, however, stared unblinkingly at the bloody scene below. Suddenly, he grabbed my wrist and said in a low voice, “While they’re distracted, we go across.”
“Okay.”
The dorm room door was opened carefully, though it still creaked like mad.
Shen Yan crossed to the opposite room in one stride and used a card to prod at the gap in the door.
I looked around. For the moment, I didn’t see any zombies.
Shen Yan said, “It’s locked from the inside.”
My heart sank. I pulled him into the neighboring room.
“This door’s open. There might be something in here too.”
The moment I stepped inside, my face twisted.
The smell of blood was thick in the room. A broken half-corpse lay on the floor, its features too ruined to identify.
Judging by the clothes and build, it was probably someone I knew.
Covering my nose and mouth, I started rummaging through the room. In the end, all I found were two packs of spicy strips.
Shen Yan was watching the doorway.
“In this weather, these bodies will start rotting, stinking, and producing toxic gases by the day after tomorrow at the latest. They’ll also attract a lot of mosquitoes and insects. We can’t stay here for long.”
I agreed.
“Let’s gather some food and tools first. The government must have shelters or something. If not, we’ll find a mountain to hide on. At least we won’t get stunk to death.”
“We can head for the countryside. Fewer people, cleaner air, and vegetables to eat.”
I needed to hold out until the time the Bullet Screen said Shen Yan would awaken his ability.
That would greatly increase our survival rate.
Whether Shen Yan had designs on me or not, I was absolutely latching onto this male lead for protection.
I didn’t have an ability, so there was no way I would choose to go solo.
I walked to the balcony. From this angle, I could see the distant teaching building and the road.
There were still bodies everywhere. It was too horrible to look at.
From somewhere, another scream rang out…
Goose bumps broke out all over me.
When I turned my head, I suddenly found myself staring wide-eyed at a head sticking out from the neighboring dorm.
I knew this guy. His name was Zhou Bin. He wore black-rimmed glasses and liked to secretly cook in the dorm by himself.
I asked, “You were in your dorm? Why didn’t you say anything earlier?”
“You guys weren’t saying anything either! I thought you were monsters. How would I dare make a sound?”
“How many people are on your side?”
“Just me.” His face crumpled like he was about to cry. “Everyone else died on the way.”
I hurriedly said, “We’ll come over. Open the door for us. There’s strength in numbers, and three people can at least discuss what to do.”
Shen Yan spoke from the doorway.
“No. There are zombies outside. They were probably drawn over when we opened the door earlier.”
I looked through the peephole and, sure enough, saw a zombie rushing into my dorm, crashing around inside with clanging bangs. Two more were wandering around outside.
I went back to the balcony and estimated the distance.
“We’ll climb over from the balcony.”
Shen Yan’s gaze shifted downward and landed around my butt. “Can you manage?”
I gritted my teeth. “You have the nerve to ask?”
That kick of his had left me limping even now.
Still, if I ignored the pain in my flesh, it wouldn’t affect my climbing too much.
Shen Yan twisted and knotted a bedsheet into a thick, long rope, then tossed it to Zhou Bin and had him tie it to something sturdy. After that, he secured the other end to the drainpipe on our side.
Then the two of us grabbed the bedsheet, stepped on the outdoor air conditioner unit, and successfully climbed over.
Zhou Bin and I were pretty familiar with each other.
The moment I landed, he burst into tears with a loud wail and hugged me.
“Holy fucking shit, that was terrifying! My legs are still so weak I haven’t recovered yet!”
With a dark expression, Shen Yan grabbed Zhou Bin by the back of his collar and yanked him away, his tone unfriendly.
“Don’t throw yourself at people while you’re holding a knife.”
I looked down and, sure enough, saw a kitchen knife in his hand. I couldn’t help being a little amused.
“How did they not find this contraband during last week’s big inspection?”
Zhou Bin wiped his tears.
“I hid it inside my pillow. I’ve also got two fruit knives. You guys want them?”
