My thoughts returned to the present.

I looked at Yuan Ling’s face, which bore a striking resemblance to the little mistress from my memories.

Mustering my courage, I asked, “When you were little, did you use to wear your hair in pigtails with daisy hair ties? And did your family bake butter cookies every Saturday afternoon?”

Yuan Ling was stunned. “How do you know that?”

“Watch closely.”

I pressed my palms together, closed my eyes, and held my breath to focus my energy.

A flash of blinding white light filled the room.

I had transformed back into my true form as a Little White Snake.

Yuan Ling covered her mouth, her face a mix of shock and pure joy.

“You! You’re the Little White Snake that used to come to my house when I was a kid?!”

I nodded my head like a woodpecker.

Her eyes lit up instantly.

She scooped me up and began showering me with frantic kisses.

“My ship finally sailed! It’s a Happy Ending! Ahhh! Little White, do you have any idea? I’ve been shipping you and Little Black since I was a little girl! I always hoped you two would end up together. If my dad hadn’t forbidden it, I bet you’d have tons and tons of snake babies by now!”

She pulled out her phone to show me her “hard work.”

“Look, I even made OCs based on the two of you! I commission art of you guys all the time!

“Are you free? I’ll take you to my room. I sleep hugging a plushie of you every single night! My room is filled with snake plushies of you and Little Black. You don’t understand-I’m obsessed!”

I was left dizzy by her fiery enthusiasm.

She was hugging me so tightly.

I… I can’t breathe-

“Give her back to me.”

The door was suddenly kicked open.

Someone snatched me away from Yuan Ling’s grasp.

Fresh air finally rushed back into my lungs.

I was alive again.

Terrified that Yuan Ling might hug me to death again, I quickly shifted back into my human form.

Being bigger is definitely better.

It’s harder to accidentally die when you’re big.

Yuan Ling stomped her foot in frustration. “Brother! Why didn’t you tell me she was Little White sooner? I almost sabotaged the ship I’ve been following for seven years!”

Qin Zhi’s expression darkened. “What did you do to her?”

“Nothing, nothing,” Yuan Ling said with a sheepish grin.

“Brother, I’ve decided to make up for my mistakes! Just watch!”

She dialed a number and yelled into the phone at the top of her lungs, “Daddy, you can go ahead and freeze my cards! Actually, I was never dating Qin Zhi. He was just an actor I hired to lie to you!”

There was a long sigh from the other end of the line.

“I know.”

“He’s your mother’s other child. You’ve known that for a long time, haven’t you?”

Yuan Ling went silent for two seconds.

She clutched her phone and walked off to the side to continue the call. “Daddy, from the sound of your voice, it seems like you really did know all along…”

I felt like a badger in a melon patch, surrounded by more juicy gossip than I could handle.

Wait.

Can we slow down the pace of these revelations?
