Chapter 5

At the entrance to the Yuming Secret Realm.

Several major sects had set up checkpoints together. Anyone who wanted to enter the secret realm had to be holding a token issued by their sect.

The inspections were strict. Rogue cultivators trying to slip in and mooch off the resources were all caught and thrown out.

But not me, the doggy!

Who would check whether a little mutt had a token?

The attendant disciples swept their gazes over me, then slid right past, as if they had seen nothing more than a rock or a fallen leaf.

I swaggered right in, looked around, and found the female cultivator with the purest aura.

She was very young, with a square, dignified face and heroic brows. That jawline, so strong it looked like it could bite through anything, was enough to make a dog swoon. She was the best-looking female cultivator around.

The female cultivator lowered her head and glanced at me. She did not shoo me away, nor did she leave.

A few male cultivators passing by saw me squatting at her feet and actually started mocking her. “A mutt? These days, really anyone can enter a secret realm. Even someone who brings a mutt can get in! Hahaha!”

Terrified, I secretly looked up to check the female cultivator’s expression.

Her face was calm. She completely ignored them.

Those male cultivators lost face. Their hands pressed down on their swords as they demanded in low voices, “Wang Jinyue! Are you looking down on us?”

I muttered under my breath. Wasn’t that obvious?

Wang Jinyue did not even spare them the corner of her eye.

The male cultivators drew their swords with a sharp swish.

In the instant before the conflict erupted,

the space between the two mountain peaks suddenly twisted, and the entrance to the secret realm thundered open.

A violent wind carrying the stench of decay burst out from within!

Wang Jinyue bent down, scooped me into her arms with one hand, and the two of us were swept inside by the gale.

I clung tightly to her and smelled the scent on her body.

It was as clean as spring water in a mountain stream.

Chapter 9

After entering the secret realm, we landed among a range of steep mountains.

The air was hot, humid, and stifling. Twisted trees stood all around us, and from the corner of my eye, they looked like clawing ghostly shadows.

I jumped down from Wang Jinyue’s arms, lowered my head, and sniffed around for the path.

The Sect Leader had left a scent map in my spiritual sense. If I followed the scent, I would find the Lingxiao Flower.

Footsteps followed behind me.

I looked back. It was Wang Jinyue.

I did not dislike her, so I let her follow.

We skirted around a swamp and crossed a forest of stone. Every now and then, I could hear screams or the sounds of people shouting and fighting, but I, the little doggy, did not run into the slightest danger.

After walking for almost two hours, we arrived at the foot of a volcano.

I raised my head and looked up. This should be the place.

Wang Jinyue saw that I was exhausted, so she carried me up to the summit.

There was something strange about this volcano. The higher we climbed, the heavier Wang Jinyue’s steps and breathing became. By the end, her expression looked as though she were bearing a crushing weight.

I, however, did not feel much of anything.

When we reached the summit, seventeen or eighteen people were already standing there.

I looked up and thought, whoa. Did the Sect Leader buy that map wholesale?

Why were there so many people here?

The others were clearly thinking the same thing. Their expressions toward one another were far from friendly.

In the middle of the volcanic summit was a boiling sea of fire, while the Lingxiao Flower grew on a nearby cliff face. A small patch of Lingxiao Flowers swayed amid the waves of flame.

The sight made everyone go red-eyed with greed.

A male cultivator in a green uniform said, “There are only nine Lingxiao Flowers here.”

Clearly, not enough to go around.

With a sharp swish, blades and swords flashed everywhere!

Wang Jinyue waved her sleeve and flung me out of the battle circle, then charged in with a meteor hammer in hand.

I hid off to the side, trembling, when a Lingxiao Flower came flying at me all on its own.

Me: “???”

I secretly glanced left and right.

The cultivators were fighting like they were about to take flight. No one noticed this little mutt.

With peak casualness, I stepped on it with one paw and quietly tucked the Lingxiao Flower into the storage pouch hanging around my neck.

Hehe. Don’t mind if I do.

A purple-robed cultivator was attacked. Clutching his chest, he turned back in disbelief and shouted, “I treated you like a brother, and you actually ambushed me!”

The next moment, half his arm flew out together with a Lingxiao Flower.

I stealthily padded over. Hehe. Mine again.

Just like that, I stepped on one here, another there, and before I knew it, I had taken five.

These cultivators were nearly beating each other’s brains out, yet none of them had grabbed as many as me, a little mutt.

One green-robed cultivator suddenly said, “Wait. Why are there so few Lingxiao Flowers left?!”

The remaining seven cultivators all stopped.

Everyone turned their gazes toward Wang Jinyue, who had no backing but was very strong.

Wang Jinyue’s face was taut. “I don’t know.”

One of them sneered and pointed the tip of his sword at her chest. “You don’t know? Then what is that in your robes?!”

Wang Jinyue lowered her head in shock and saw a Lingxiao Flower hidden in her robes.

I immediately felt a little awkward. I was the one who had secretly put it there just now.

The little doggy liked her. The little doggy wanted to share with her.

Wang Jinyue: “…”

The remaining seven all pointed their blades and swords at her, slowly closing in.

Wang Jinyue did not sell out the little doggy. She slowly lifted her meteor hammer. “It seems I have no choice…”

The atmosphere was taut as a drawn bowstring. I immediately hid to the side.

Wang Jinyue fought many opponents alone, raising her meteor hammer to block a barrage of attacks.

They fought so hard they practically took to the air. I retreated farther and farther, then suddenly stepped into a hole. Before I even had time to bark, I fell in!

The hole was very deep. Fortunately, it was not straight down. I slid all the way to the bottom and smelled something very fishy.

I had just lowered my head to sniff

when, from above, came a familiar series of kissy noises!
