Survival Guide After Accidentally Kissing a Demon - Chapter 350
Chapter 350
Cassius froze.
“This ring…”
He had spotted an inscription on the inside of the ring. It was his name.
Even the engraving looked like his handiwork.
Beili turned her gaze toward him.
She would have been happy to explain to Doctor Cassius that he was the one who had made this ring, even though he had no memory of it whatsoever.
Given enough time, she could also have patiently explained in detail how Ashera had taken her through the future, then brought her back to the past.
Though the experience was somewhat difficult to comprehend.
It was like turning a storybook to its final page, peeling her name off that page, and pasting it over the name on the first.
Nothing appeared to have changed, yet she was no longer the person she had once been.
She had lost some things. Of course, she had gained some things as well.
This wooden Amber Ring was one of them.
But Beili was far too exhausted now. She did not even have the strength to speak.
Fortunately, Cassius did not seem anxious for an answer.
He merely glanced at the ring and smiled gently.
“Get some rest, Miss Bartholomew. I think I can repair this ring…”
She nodded.
With Doctor Cassius there, Beili closed her eyes, finally at ease.
At some point, several people seemed to come by. They were discussing how the dark creatures had vanished overnight.
“That’s a good thing for Sainthos, isn’t it?”
“Yes, but what about the group those dark creatures abducted…?”
“What group?”
“The most famous designer in Sainthos and her team…”
She heard a long name that sounded both familiar and strange…
…
That was where Beili’s memory ended.
After that, either because of a sleep spell or sheer exhaustion, she fell into a deep slumber.
When she woke again, Beili sensed that something was wrong.
The bed beneath her was swaying.
Not just the bed. The entire room was rocking.
“Whoosh…”
“Whoosh…”
She could hear the surging waves.
The air also carried the salty, briny scent of seawater.
Was she… on a ship?
As the thought flashed through her mind, Beili opened her eyes to an unfamiliar wooden ceiling.
Glancing around, she found herself in a cramped room she had never seen before.
She pushed herself upright and, amid the gentle rocking, made her way to a round window no larger than her palm.
Outside stretched an endless, overcast sky. Beneath it lay a dark gray sea, drained of color in the absence of sunlight, with dense fog blanketing its surface.
So she really was on a ship.
A flicker of confusion crossed her wine-red eyes.
Click.
Someone turned the door handle and opened the door.
A young woman dressed in a Sainthos Palace servant’s uniform entered. She paused when she saw that Beili was awake, then set down a tray of food.
“Please enjoy your meal.”
With that, she turned to leave.
Beili swiftly chanted an Immobilization Spell and cast it on the maid.
The maid’s body instantly went rigid.
The ship rose and fell with the waves.
Beili walked over and shut the door first. Then she summoned the Red Dagger and gripped it in her hand.
It was the only weapon she had on her.
She leveled the tip of her blade at the maid.
The maid’s eyes were wide open, but she couldn’t move. Naked terror filled her gaze.
“I’m only going to ask you a few questions. Answer me honestly, and I’ll let you leave this room unharmed. How does that sound?”
Beili could tell the maid desperately wanted to nod, but she was still unable to move.
So Beili continued, “First question: Who is in charge of this ship? Second: Where is it headed? You have one minute to think.”
A moment later, the spell immobilizing the maid was released.
“His Majesty the king.”
The maid stared at the Red Dagger in Beili’s hand. Her voice trembled, and tears glistened in her eyes. “His Majesty never said where we’re going. I truly don’t know…”
The king of Sainthos?
“Is Prince Cyril on board?” Beili pressed.
“His Highness?”
The maid shook her head.
So His Majesty had secretly abducted her while she was unconscious and brought her aboard this ship?
As Beili pondered this, someone knocked on the door.
“Miss Bartholomew,” a man called from outside. “There’s no need to threaten a maid who knows nothing. I can tell you where this ship is headed: Holy Island.”
The voice sounded familiar. Beili soon recognized it as belonging to the Mage who had cast Memory Extraction Magic on her.
It came as no surprise that he worked for the King of Sainthos.
But why was the King of Sainthos taking her to Holy Island?
Could he know where Ashera was?
At the thought, Beili relaxed instead.
So Ashera was on Holy Island?
Why had he chosen a place like that after leaving the Far South…?
Beili relaxed her grip and put away the Red Dagger.
When she remained silent, the man outside politely reminded her, “Miss Bartholomew, you only recently underwent Memory Extraction Magic. You could lose consciousness again at any moment.”
“Besides, as you’ve seen, we’re currently at sea, and it looks like rain is likely. Rain can cause all sorts of trouble out here…”
“I understand. You don’t need to explain so much,” Beili interrupted.
The man fell silent for a moment before continuing.
“My apologies. I only want you to understand that trying to escape would expose you to far greater danger than remaining aboard this ship.”
After that, all went quiet outside the door.
Beili waved at the maid, signaling that she could leave. As if granted a last-minute reprieve, the maid bolted from the room.
Beili glanced at the meal on the table: fish stew with tomatoes.
Picking up the spoon, she ate in silence.
The man did have a point. Escaping at sea would be troublesome. It would be better to wait until they reached the island before figuring out what to do.
Besides, if they truly were going in search of Ashera, Beili was more than happy to hitch a ride.
…
Footsteps occasionally passed back and forth outside her door. Clearly, she was under guard.
Beili had no intention of escaping. Once she had eaten her fill, she lay back down to rest.
Although she had already been unconscious for several days, the Memory Extraction Magic had left her body utterly exhausted.
The ship rocked gently with the waves, and her red eyes gradually drifted shut.
Ashera’s figure surfaced in her mind.
The youth who had vanished in the Far South, and the man who had carried her on his back for so long inside the Dream Cage…
