*She Had Not Been Angry in the First Place*

Beili had not been all that angry to begin with.

Then she saw Ashera transform into a boy and watched that familiar face take on a familiar expression.

What little anger she had managed to gather vanished into thin air.

She forgave him with ease.

Yet the culprit himself seemed rather unhappy when he saw how easily she had forgiven him.

“You don’t seem to be in a very good mood?”

A certain Demon might have taken on the form of a boy and might be acting both quiet and clingy, but Beili could plainly tell that he was sulking.

Had that fellow just rolled his eyes?

“How could I be in a bad mood?”

The corners of the young Ashera’s lips curved gently, and his voice was soft.

“You did not blame me because someone else tried to turn you against me, and you have even become gentler with me. How could I possibly be in a bad mood?”

He answered her question with one of his own.

Beili hesitated, but still said, “Your mouth may be smiling, and your eyes may be curved…”

His golden eyes curved into beautiful arcs, but their depths were as gloomy as an abyss. His smile did not reach them.

“I have no reason to be unhappy, do I?” he countered again, his tone languid.

But…

Was she hearing things?

Why did his words sound so sour?

While Beili was still puzzled, Ashera took her hand and brought her down to the ground. Together, they approached the cluster of light.

Ashera was still in his boyish form. When he turned to face the light, however, the three skulls floating behind him turned toward Beili instead.

They drifted closer to her.

‘Don’t you’ ‘like him better’ ‘than me?’

They spoke the three fragments to her in turn.

Beili: Uh…

He really did sound sour.

Beili met the gazes of the three pitch-black skulls and fell silent for a moment.

She had just opened her mouth to say something when the boy standing before her with his back turned raised a hand and lightly swept one finger through the air.

Several ribbons of black mist rose from the ground and swiftly wrapped around the light.

“Wait.”

Beili raised a hand to stop him.

“Honored Demon Lord, what exactly are you planning to do?”

“This thing does not belong in Hell.”

The boy turned his face slightly, his golden eyes sliding toward her.

“I suspect it is connected to you.”

“Are they trying to contact you through this thing? Or to learn where you are?”

“Can it open a rift out of Hell?”

“Could it be that you… you want them to come and find you? Those… those who covet you.”

His voice was muffled.

“I know you do not like it here… Do you want to leave me?”

The boy’s rapid stream of questions and pale, gloomy profile made Beili sense a trace of pitiful vulnerability.

“You have misunderstood,” she said.

“I have no intention of leaving you, and this thing is not used for what you think it is…”

Beili said all this, but the boy appeared unmoved.

*Heaven and earth be my witness!* Beili cried in her heart.

She caught the hand he had left suspended in the air and turned him around to face her.

“If I wanted to leave, I would not have deliberately triggered the life-and-death contract in the cemetery on Holy Island and come here with you.”

Helplessness entered her voice.

“This place may indeed be rather unsuitable for a God to live in, but the thought of leaving has never crossed my mind. I promise.”

At her words, the boy’s expression softened somewhat.

But then his golden gaze shifted back to the cluster of light. After several seconds of silence, he said quietly, “I still want to destroy it. If it made you leave me… Even if the chance were only one in ten thousand, I would not want that to happen.”

All right, all right.

“This is actually an obituary for a God…”

Before the boy could act, Beili reached out and, moving with great speed, rescued the cluster of light from the black mist.

Naturally, an obituary for a God carried news of a certain God’s fall.

“And I suspect this obituary is about me.”

As Beili spoke, she observed five seconds of silence for herself.

After all, the God of Destiny had said that she would fall in love with a Demon and then lose her divine office.

Even Beili did not know what a God would become after losing their divine office.

In any case, she put the obituary away for safekeeping.

As for when she could open it, she would have to wait for a certain Demon to undo his stasis spell and allow her divine power to recover faster.

However…

Our Demon Lord still intended to play dumb.

Whenever the conversation turned to undoing the spell, Ashera, still in his boyish form, became like a puppy that had done something wrong. His golden eyes would dart to one side, then slowly turn back as he looked at her with perfect innocence.

If she continued to press him, those golden eyes would even grow misty.

He might go so far as to shed two tears.

Beili had no answer to that. She could only sigh helplessly.

Still, there was another matter worth mentioning.

When the divine obituary fell into Hell, Ashera had torn open a rift in space and time halfway through the gathering. He had rushed back and killed the uninvited guest who had trespassed in his territory.

Unfortunately, the intruder had only been a clone.

The black-haired man was apparently a Demon with an extraordinary talent for creating clones.

Only this particular Demon would do something like enter another lord’s territory.

That was because nearly all the figures wandering about Hell were his clones.

As for his true body…

From the moment this Demon had been born, he had never once allowed his true body to appear.

This Demon was also a notorious blabbermouth in Hell.

According to Ashera, while the other Demons busied themselves fighting over power, this one was interested only in gossip.

And so, when he learned that a God was living in Ashera’s territory…

All of Hell learned about it.

After that incident, Ashera became even less willing to leave his territory.

Nor would he allow her to leave.

Of course, he made these requests in his boyish form, begging her again and again until she nodded.

Ashera grew visibly more anxious.

Whenever Beili was reading, she would catch sight of him from the corner of her eye, pacing restlessly nearby and muttering something under his breath in the language of Demons.

He was probably worried that some Demon might abduct her the moment his attention lapsed, Beili guessed.

“You could simply undo the magic you placed on me, Ashera.”

Beili lifted her gaze from her book.

“Once I have enough divine power, I will be able to protect myself. None of the things you are worried about will happen.”

Unfortunately, whenever Beili reminded him of this, that innocent, puppy-like expression would reappear on the face of our esteemed Demon Lord, ranked twenty-ninth.

“Magic?”

He sounded surprised at first. Then his usual smile entered his voice.

“No, my dear, there is no magic. How could I possibly cast a spell on you?”

“I explained it to you. That Demon excels at turning people against one another.”

His voice softened.

“After all, I love you so very much…”

Beili:

Beili looked at him in silence, sighed inwardly, and returned her gaze to her book.

Honestly, it would be quicker to leaf through the *Encyclopedia of Hell* in her hands than to wait for Ashera to agree.

At first, Beili intended to let Ashera have his way.

Even if he did not lift the spell now, her divine power would recover sooner or later as time passed.

Once it reached a certain threshold, it might even break directly through the restrictions of his spell. Beili had a feeling it would.

But…

Ashera’s anxiety grew steadily worse.

He would often be in the middle of doing something when he suddenly sensed something amiss and vanished, only to return a little while later.

Judging by how quickly the Demon Lord came back each time, Beili knew that nothing must have happened.

As his disappearances became more unpredictable and more frequent, Beili eventually decided that she still needed to have a proper talk with him.

And so, when Beili woke partway through her sleep and did not see Ashera in bed, she did not go back to sleep.

She sat up in bed and waited.

She had no idea how long she waited.

Within the range of her divine senses, a black cloud rapidly approached, then flew through the window and into the room.

Beili looked at the black cloud and came straight to the point.

“I think we need to have a proper talk about this, Ashera.”
