The next day, I didn’t see Lu Guanshan.

Instead I saw someone unexpected.

Lu Yiyun—Lu Guanshan’s older sister.

She looked like she had just come off a mission, still wearing her combat uniform.

A grim, battle-hardened air clung to her, with a bit of not-quite-wiped blood on her face.

She looked a lot like Lu Guanshan, but her face was softer and smoother in outline, her bearing and eyes steadier and sharper.

Lu Yiyun had come in under someone else’s number, in order.

I had never met her, but I knew that face.

The 3S-rank Chief Sentinel. Unlike the flamboyant Lu Guanshan, she rarely appeared in public—ordinary people never got to see her.

So the moment I recognized her, I went on full alert.

I assumed she was here to make trouble for me.

Instead she walked in, sat down, and her first words were an apology.

“I’m Lu Guanshan’s sister. I heard about what he’s been doing lately, so I came to apologize.”

“I rarely come back. I had no idea he was like this. He’s caused you a great deal of distress. I’m sorry.”

Her voice wasn’t as stern as her looks—surprisingly clear and mellow.

I waved it off:

“It’s fine. It’s just been affecting my work a bit. Your brother is hard to talk to.”

Lu Yiyun said:

“Don’t worry. I’ll make him stop harassing you. And he won’t be able to come for a while, even if he wants to.”

I asked, puzzled: “Why?”

Lu Yiyun smiled faintly:

“Because I beat him into the hospital. On my way here just now.”

I was stunned inside. What a fierce family tradition.

If the sister was this fair-minded, how had the brother turned out like that?

Lu Yiyun seemed to read my mind and said:

“Our parents lost their lives in the line of duty long ago. I’ve been busy all these years and spent little time with him. I never expected him to become like this.”

“I never thought he’d chase a girl with such low tactics, so I apologize on his behalf. Once he’s healed, I’ll make him apologize to you in person.”

Just like that, much of the anger I’d been holding in dissipated.

Remembering something, I pulled out the evidence I’d been collecting.

All of it caused by Lu Guanshan.

Curses, harassment, stalking, ostracism.

“Can you help resolve these? A few of them have powerful backing, plus your brother’s friends. My complaints upstairs went nowhere.”

After reading, Lu Yiyun’s expression turned grave, her apology deepening.

She promised me:

“Don’t worry, I’ll have someone handle it right away. If needed, I’ll arrange protection for you. It’s the least we owe you to make amends.”

I smiled, reassured.

“Thank you.”

I had noticed from the start that she didn’t look well.

Bloodshot eyes, hands trembling slightly.

Out of professionalism, I asked:

“You look off. Haven’t you had soothing yet?”

The stronger a Sentinel’s spiritual power, the worse the backlash—some even needed a high-grade Guide on standby at all times.

Lu Yiyun smiled politely:

“It’s fine. I’m used to it.”

I looked puzzled.

She explained further:

“My case is special. Guides don’t help me much, so I manage it myself as the situation requires. It isn’t affecting me for now.”

That was the first I’d heard of it.

“A session is still better than nothing, right?”

For some reason, Lu Guanshan’s words suddenly surfaced in my mind.

Did a low-grade Guide really have to find someone to lean on?

I’d rejected Lu Guanshan and gotten him beaten up.

Would my life really get better after Lu Yiyun left?

Thinking and thinking, before I quite knew what I was doing, I took Lu Yiyun’s hand where it rested on the desk.

And said softly:

“Jiejie, let me soothe you first.”

Lu Yiyun froze, murmuring: “It’s no use.”

“We’re already here. Let’s try. Maybe it’ll feel a little better?”

Lu Yiyun smiled helplessly but nodded, as if long accustomed to this outcome.

I had her close her eyes on the recliner and took her well-defined hand in mine.

I started with the most basic soothing, testing the waters.

Then slowly, my spiritual power began to reach inward.

A mindscape was each person’s most private place—hard to enter when the other person resisted.

An under-leveled Guide couldn’t get in either.

If a Sentinel’s mind was too broken, the Guide even risked getting trapped inside.

But unexpectedly.

I slipped into Lu Yiyun’s mindscape with ease.

It was a mountain forest, collapsing in places all over.

On a rock, I saw Lu Yiyun’s spirit animal.

A tiger.

Lying there resting, looking exhausted and covered in wounds.

My spirit animal was a white fox. It edged closer, cautiously.
