Chapter 2

Being a control freak is an illness, and I’ve had it since I was little.

The first victims were my parents.

My dad would go out to attend a dinner party, and the second his butt hit the chair, my messages would follow him like a ghost.

[Where are you? Report in!]

[Send me photos. Let me see what you’re eating, what you’re drinking, who you’re with, and whether your chair has a backrest or not.]

[What time are you planning to come home? And when you get back, you are not allowed to smell like smoke!]

My mom would go out for afternoon tea, and the moment she set down her bag, her phone would start clanging nonstop.

She replied twice, then got sick of me and simply turned her phone off.

That night, I stood at the head of her bed, pried her eyelids open, and whispered like a demon.

“My dearest mother, why didn’t you reply to your precious daughter’s messages?”

“Why didn’t you tell me what you ate and drank? Don’t you know I’d worry?”

“Why aren’t you wearing the outfit I prepared for you today? Why didn’t you listen to me? Hm? Answer me!”

My dad spoiled me. My mom absolutely did not.

She grabbed me by the arm on the spot and threw me out.

My dad felt sorry for me when he saw it.

Caught between listening to his wife and spoiling his daughter, he came up with a third option.

Torment someone else.

Qin Yue lived just one street away from my house.

Ever since he was little, he hadn’t been the sharpest tool in the shed, and he did everything in a muddled, topsy-turvy way. His parents were at their wits’ end trying to manage him.

My dad saw his chance and simply packaged me up and sent me over.

According to the Qin Family’s parents later, I was like an angel descending from the heavens, solving their idiot son problem in one fell swoop.

This extremely harmonious situation continued all the way until the third year of middle school.

Then Qin Yue suddenly gained enlightenment.

He dodged me warily. “What do you have to do with me? What gives you the right to control me?”

After that, whenever Qin Yue saw me, he took the long way around. He stopped listening to me, and he stopped dressing according to my taste.

When I saw him put together yet another red-and-green outfit, it felt like ten thousand ants were crawling through my heart.

In order to control someone, I was capable of making enormous concessions.

When he played basketball, I brought him water.

When school let out, I brought him food.

When he skipped class, I took the blame for him.

During that period, I lived like a shameless simp, simping so hard that even Qin Yue started to feel embarrassed. In the end, he took the initiative to ask that we return to our old way of getting along.

With lightning speed, I threw out all the eyesores in his closet, clothes and shoes included.

Then I bought a whole new batch according to my taste.

Everything he wore each day had to be approved by me first.

Life like that was honestly pretty wonderful. I was happy, Qin Yue was happy.

Until my family and the Qin Family suddenly started discussing a marriage alliance between the two of us.

From then on, Qin Yue developed a rebellious streak toward my control.

I could tell that being managed by me was painful for him, but because of the marriage alliance, he had no choice but to listen to me.

As long as I was happy, anyone else could suffer.

And so Qin Yue went from washing my underwear with a warm, eager face, to washing it with a cold face, to his current state: throwing a small tantrum first, then going “moo” before washing my underwear.

If the floating comments were right and he would have his destined heroine, then sooner or later, there would come a day when I could no longer control Qin Yue.

In that case, I had to protect my family.
