The Clan Register Is Missing You - Chapter 3
After Lin Shangyun finished his performance, I brought the cartload of flowers over to him.
“You’ve had it rough these days, my treasure.”
The parents and disciples nearby were shaken by the sight.
The flower buds in their own hands suddenly looked tiny.
A flower clamped in my teeth, I said, “Yun’er, this is a gift from your sister.”
Lin Shangyun’s mouth twitched. It took him a while to squeeze out a “thank you.”
Then he helped me push the cart of flowers and hurried away.
“So? Doesn’t it feel good to be family?”
He frowned. “Mm… it’s a bit… too lively.”
I smiled demurely. “Love itself is passionate, you know.”
“Whenever you want, you can join my family register.”
Lin Shangyun’s ear tips went red. “Let me think about it some more.”
As expected, becoming family still needs time to nurture.
I pinched his cheeks, which had filled out. “It’s fine. I have all the time in the world to wait for you.”
The boy’s eyes softened. He said hoarsely:
“Next time there’s no need to prepare so much. It’s a waste of money.”
See? Before he’s even joined the family, he’s already worrying about his sister’s finances.
How many times better than my spendthrift Demon Lord brother.
Lately, Little Lin kept avoiding me.
I gave him flowers — one of the ways the demon race expresses deep affection for kin.
But he said he’d caught a chill and it wasn’t convenient to see me.
Liar. I could smell it. What was inside wasn’t the smell of a chill.
It was a raw, bloody scent, a little like photinia blossom.
I pounded on the door, loudly asking if he was hurt, whether he felt unwell anywhere.
“Let sister come in and see.”
“D-don’t come in.”
Lin Shangyun’s words were muddled, impatient, with an occasional broken moan slipping out.
“You’ve got internal heat.”
I concluded firmly.
“I’ll find you some herbs to clear it. Don’t be afraid, it’s a minor illness.”
“It can be cured.”
I crouched by the back mountain, talking with the old immortal physician. He said, “In spring, a person goes into season.”
I said in surprise, “S-so, do we… have him neutered?”
I’d raised demon beasts in the demon realm. When they went into season, you had to snip the balls off.
The physician gave me a horrified look. “That won’t be necessary. But he needs yin and yang to harmonize.”
“That means…”
“That’s right — find your brother a dao companion. He’s too hot-blooded, aching for love.” The physician explained. “Human nature.”
I nodded. “Rest assured, I’m not that kind of traditional parent. I respect freedom of love, freedom of orientation.”
The old man added, “You said before that your brother is cold by nature. At a time like this, you can let him adjust through romance.”
“This old man has seen many a cold person turn warm for love, an ice mountain melting.”
I nodded in praise, clasped his hand, tears in my eyes. “A miracle doctor indeed.”
“I’ll arrange a match for him at once.”
I called out my Demon Lord brother to discuss what kind of quality match to introduce to our little brother.
He said either men or women were fine — the demon realm had no shortage of talent.
I agreed, but also felt this little brother might not accept a demon-race match right away.
“Tsk, this new face looks so unnatural.”
The Demon Lord reached out and poked my face.
I said enthusiastically, “The texture’s excellent. Clings to the skin naturally, breathes, doesn’t cause breakouts.”
As we chatted eagerly, a flash of sword light struck us both in the face.
The Demon Lord dodged and avoided the blade.
Oh — it was Lin Shangyun.
Our family was reunited.
Lin Shangyun stood before us, face dark. His eyes carried restrained fury as he glared at my Demon Lord brother.
“How dare you touch her face?”
My brother glared back. “What’re you saying? I’d slap her face if I wanted.”
“You’re not even in the family yet and you’ve got this much attitude!”
“Once you’re in, that’ll really be something! You’ll be stepping all over me?”
I mediated, “You’re both my good brothers. Don’t spoil the harmony.”
Lin Shangyun’s eyes held a hint of red. He asked coldly:
“Hah. How many good brothers do you have?”
I counted up the demon-race kin. “Thirty-six.”
He crushed the sword hilt.
A moment of silence.
Lin Shangyun lowered his eyes and mocked himself. “Senior Sister has so many fine matches, and yet comes to toy with me.”
I was startled. I hadn’t expected him to be such a petty brother.
I smiled knowingly and coaxed him:
“Yun’er, you’re the most well-behaved. Naturally I dote on you the most.”
“Those other brothers, what are they? Right now you’re number one in my heart.”
“No one else compares to you.”
The Demon Lord sneered from the side:
“I’d say he’s number one at vying for favor. Nothing else to show for himself.”
“Skinny frame, shallow cultivation. Around here he wouldn’t even make the rankings.”
“Without some little tricks, how could he ever rise?”
“…”
“Hiss — Senior Sister, my hand hurts so much.”
Lin Shangyun frowned. The hand gripping the sword hilt trembled, and blood actually dripped from his wrist, drop by drop.
His palm was a mangled mess of flesh, splinters still stuck in it.
The Demon Lord brother said in surprise, “You’re putting on a show now?”
“Don’t listen to him, sis!”
“This fox spirit! Playing the frail little thing, and now…”
I told him to shut up.
“Do you not bear any fault in this at all?”
I hurried to cradle Lin Shangyun’s hand, fussing over him.
“It hurts.”
He lowered his eyes. “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have disturbed Senior Sister, shouldn’t have annoyed anyone.”
My heart ached for this brother.
I slid my fingertips lightly over the wound. It healed in no time, tender pink flesh growing back.
I’d always tended to my younger sisters’ and brothers’ wounds before. This healing spell was practically my specialty.
“There. Yun’er must take good care of himself. When you’re hurt, your sister’s heart hurts.”
Lin Shangyun looked at the healed wound, gaze heavy.
He gave a light laugh:
“All right, Senior Sister.”
