Killing intent surged in Shen Yan’s eyes. She abruptly raised her sword and slashed at his right arm.

Zhu Hezhou twisted aside, evading the strike. He immediately unleashed an overwhelming pressure in an attempt to blast Shen Yan away while gathering power in his palm and striking at her.

“Roar!”

The black flood dragon leaped into the air. Its immense otherworldly-beast pressure shattered Zhu Hezhou’s in a thunderous collision.

Sword light flashed, and blood sprayed!

“Aaaagh!”

Zhu Hezhou screamed in agony. His right arm had been severed!

Everyone’s expression changed. They were stunned both by the powerful black flood dragon Shen Yan had summoned and by the fact that she had turned the tables and cut off Zhu Hezhou’s arm!

Shen Yan was not merely a sword cultivator. She was also a Summoner!

In the stands, the members of Wenxin Palace wore extremely ugly expressions. Its palace lord glared viciously at Shen Yan, wishing he could kill her on the spot and avenge his son, Zhu Hezhou!

“Brother!”

Zhu Miaoqing shouted anxiously from the waiting area.

Then she glared venomously at Shen Yan’s back. “You bitch! How dare you hurt my brother?!”

The youths on the field stared fearfully at Shen Yan and the flood dragon. They fled from the area around her as fast as they could.

Zhu Hezhou’s face had gone white with pain. Pinned down by the black flood dragon’s pressure, he could not rise at all!

Shen Yan lowered her gaze to him and smiled. “Zhu Hezhou, I’ll give you a choice. Where would you like me to drive my sword into your body?”

The lord of Wenxin Palace could stand it no longer. He roared furiously, “Shen Yan, if you dare harm my son again, I will make you wish you were dead!”

The atmosphere throughout the field plunged to freezing point.

Shen Yan looked up toward the palace lord and smiled mockingly. “Why didn’t you say a word when your son tried to cut off my arm? During Western Region Academy’s fair and impartial entrance examination, does Wenxin Palace intend to overstep its bounds? I, Shen Yan, have broken none of the combat test’s rules!”

The lord of Wenxin Palace found her sharp tongue unbearably grating.

He was about to speak again when an immense pressure swept across the entire martial field. Everyone felt as if a hand had closed around their throat, leaving them unable to utter a word.

The pressure came from Dean Xuanyun.

His face darkened. He swept a cold gaze over the lord of Wenxin Palace and amplified his voice with spiritual power.

“This is the site of Western Region Academy’s entrance examination!”

“No outside faction will be permitted to interfere while our academy conducts its examination! If you object, you may come to this old man!”

His resounding words struck the members of Wenxin Palace like a public slap, filling them with humiliation. Yet they did not dare make another clamor. Dean Xuanyun and so many elders and instructors of Western Region Academy were all present. If a fight truly broke out, their entire party would not be enough to face Dean Xuanyun alone.

Silence fell over the field.

No one dared challenge Dean Xuanyun’s authority.

Just then, Shen Yan casually drove her sword into Zhu Hezhou’s thigh.

“Aagh!”

His scream rang especially loud across the silent martial field.

Everyone was stunned. They had not expected Shen Yan to dare attack him again.

“You!” The lord of Wenxin Palace’s eyes burned with hatred, and his hands clenched into fists.

Shen Yan unhurriedly pulled out the blade, drawing a muffled groan of pain from Zhu Hezhou. He had lost an arm, and now a sword wound pierced his thigh. Even without the flood dragon’s pressure holding him down, he would have been unable to stand!

The lord of Wenxin Palace ground his teeth at her audacity. With Dean Xuanyun there, however, he dared not threaten her again.

At that moment, someone in the waiting area began to applaud.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

“Good! Wonderful! Well cut! Well stabbed!” A red-haired youth clapped as he shouted with laughter.

Everyone turned toward the sound.

It was Zhuge Youlin!

The lord of Wenxin Palace’s face turned green. He wanted nothing more than to draw his sword and run Shen Yan and this insolent brat through!

Zhuge Weiran hurriedly clapped one hand over Zhuge Youlin’s mouth and used the other to pin him in place so he could no longer applaud.

“Youlin!” Zhuge Weiran’s face was grave, his tone stern with warning.

Seeing that his seventh brother was truly angry, Zhuge Youlin realized he had gone too far. He was about to apologize when Zhuge Weiran lowered his voice and said solemnly, “Do you realize how much danger your behavior could bring to Chifeng Kingdom? Youlin, when you are away from home, your every word and action represent an entire nation, not merely yourself.”

Zhuge Youlin regretted his actions as soon as he heard that.

If only he had known. He should have disguised himself before shouting.

At that moment, Zhu Miaoqing stormed toward him from within the waiting area. She raised a hand to slap him.

Slap!

The sharp sound echoed.

The youths in the waiting area stared in shock toward Zhuge Youlin and the others.

The person Zhu Miaoqing had slapped was Zhuge Weiran. He had stepped in front of Zhuge Youlin.

A red handprint appeared across Zhuge Weiran’s fair cheek.

Fury crossed Zhuge Youlin’s face. He tried to attack Zhu Miaoqing, but Zhuge Weiran held him down firmly and urged, “Don’t act rashly!”

Zhu Miaoqing saw that Zhuge Weiran neither resisted after being slapped nor did anything but cower. Emboldened, she declared, “This young lady bestowed that slap upon you as a warning. Watch your words and actions!”

Zhuge Youlin stared at her with icy eyes, barely suppressing his rage. He could tolerate being beaten or cursed, but no one was allowed to bully his seventh brother!

He tried to break free of Zhuge Weiran’s grip, only for a small, fair hand to catch his wrist.

Zhuge Youlin looked back and saw Jiang Xianyue.

Smiling, she kindly sent him a voice transmission. “You’ll only suffer if you hit someone in broad daylight.”

In other words, taking revenge in secret would keep him from suffering any loss.

Zhuge Youlin had never feared Wenxin Palace. He had powerful backing of his own—though that backing was not the minor kingdom of Chifeng.

Zhu Miaoqing sneered. “What do you want to do? Are you going to hit this young lady?”

Zhuge Youlin forced himself to calm down.

He gave her a cold, sidelong glance. “Your brother is almost finished, and you’re still showing off over here?”

Her face instantly turned ugly.

She could not help looking toward the martial field. Her brother, Zhu Hezhou, lay on the ground. He seemed to have fainted from excessive blood loss.

Zhu Miaoqing bit her lip, glared at Zhuge Youlin, then walked closer to the edge of the field.

On the field, Shen Yan recalled the flood dragon Wuying. Then she stared coldly at the other youths. Naturally, none dared make her their target.

The third round of the combat test soon ended.

Yu Changying, Wen Yuchu, and Xiao Zechuan had not made a single move during the test, preventing anyone from glimpsing their true strength.
