Chapter 5

If suffering were a talent, then I was truly gifted.

I was born in a mountain village where life was hard, plagued by constant natural disasters and man-made calamities.

Then, when I was seven, a monstrous beast appeared.

With a single snap of its jaws, it swallowed half the village. My parents’ bodies were chewed into a bloody pulp. Within moments, everyone in the village had been buried in the beast’s stomach.

My parents had planned to sell me to a fool to be his child bride. I refused, was beaten half to death, and locked in a cellar. Because of that, the beast didn’t find me easily, and I survived long enough for an immortal to descend the mountain for training.

I knocked my head against the ground until it bled, begging the immortal to take me away.

Once I entered the sect, I became a Miscellaneous Servant, bullied at every turn. Many times, I nearly lost my life. It was then that I understood the law of the jungle in the cultivation world: the strong prey on the weak.

I practiced like a madwoman, climbing my way up step by step. Only then did Master finally notice me.

I exhausted every effort to reach the Golden Core realm, and I nearly failed to survive the Lightning Tribulation. When I first saw the Danmaku, I thought it was my lucky break. Now I know it was actually my retribution.

I couldn’t help but curse out loud, “The Heavenly Dao is a real piece of work! He gives his ‘dear sons’ and ‘dear daughters’ everything they want, but he doesn’t give a damn whether ordinary people live or die, does he?”

My curses grew filthier, as if I were spitting out all the resentment I’d suppressed over the years.

The Danmaku was stunned by my outburst:

[What a beautiful mental state.]

Before I could spit out my most poisonous insult, a thunderous boom echoed from outside the Flood Dragon.

A familiar Lightning Tribulation followed. The lightning was fierce and violent.

Inside the Flood Dragon’s belly, I released all my defensive spiritual energy. I felt the lightning surging through my body, racing through my limbs and bones, the pain tearing at my very soul.

Time passed slowly.

Every single meridian in my body was shattered into pieces by the tempering of the lightning, but I forced them to reform. Again and again, until they were tempered and resilient.

I raised my sword once more, and the darkness shattered.

Before my eyes sat a single, shimmering orb. It was the Flood Dragon’s Inner Core.

Before I could reach for it, a hand snatched it away.

The man smiled triumphantly. “This pearl is quite beautiful. Junior Sister will surely love it.”

With that, he raised his hand and struck at me.

Having just endured the Lightning Tribulation, there wasn’t a single patch of uninjured skin on my body. My spiritual energy was depleted, leaving me with no way to resist as I took the full force of his palm strike. Blood gushed from my mouth.

He moved to deliver the final blow, but I blocked him with my sword.

Even without spiritual energy, I still had my blade. He was merely a Spell Cultivator-a glass cannon. Within three to five moves, he was already losing ground.

His arrogant expression vanished, and he fell to his knees, weeping and snotting.

“I was blind! Please, Immortal Maiden, spare my life!”

I used my sword to tilt his chin up, flashing a wicked smile. “I liked you better when you were acting all defiant just now.”

He cried even harder. “Spare me, Immortal Maiden! Once I get out of here, I’ll definitely repay you! I have spirit stones! Lots of them! I’ll give them all to you!”

At the mention of spirit stones, I couldn’t help but feel a little swayed.

The Danmaku erupted:

[Pull it up by the roots! Cut him down! He just tried to kill you-he’ll definitely seek revenge once he’s out!]

[This guy is sinister and cunning. You absolutely cannot let him live!]
