Chapter 173

“What’s the situation?” Hao Jingye and the others sat up straight in an instant.

Sheng An pursed her lips. “There’s no situation at the moment, but my intuition says something is wrong. I want to go back and check. Have the convoy slow down, but keep moving forward.”

Song Linwei frowned.

He knew Sheng An didn’t make baseless claims, but right now…

Hao Jingye pointed at the screen, stating the problem they currently faced.

“The Priest and his group are taking a shortcut and moving very fast. We’re driving, so we have to stick to the main roads. If we delay any further now, will we fall too far behind?”

In fact, they were already quite a distance away.

Sheng An had the vehicle stop and opened the door to get out. “Li Xin will find a way to stall them.”

Jiang Yu: “…”

What could he possibly do?

However, Sheng An’s intuition rarely failed. Everyone felt a heavy weight in their hearts now, so no one tried to stop her.

Wu Buyu, Long Tianyu, and Li Wanyun didn’t hesitate; they followed her out of the vehicle.

The Giant Bird carried three people back to D3.

Hao Jingye contacted Qi Lingwu, who was in Dr. Yan’s vehicle. “Qi Dui? What do you say?”

The two sides had been maintaining a constant dialogue, so he naturally knew what was happening.

Qi Lingwu was equally calm. “Listen to Sheng An. Slow down and keep moving. Since D3 looks normal, let them think – we look normal too.”
“Idiot!”

Although the Old Priest was an Aberrant, he still possessed the memories of his original body. He prided himself on being a steady leader; even when angry, he was usually very patient.

But now, he truly couldn’t hold it back!

He even cursed – a vulgarity he had never uttered before!!

This numbskull was a complete idiot!

They had been making good time taking a shortcut, but then this idiot tripped. Not only did he tumble into a fissure himself, taking the Priest with him, but he also dragged Qiu in and caught the woman who had tried to save the Priest.

If the Priest hadn’t been somewhat capable and grabbed the others in time, they would have been smashed to death by the fall.

But even though they weren’t dead, the four of them were now trapped at the bottom of a very, very deep fissure.

How the hell were they supposed to get out?

– More hindrance than help!

The phrase flashed through the Priest’s mind. In that moment, he even thought about just killing this numbskull and being done with it.

Qiu was thinking the same thing.

In his fury, he actually struck out.
Thud -*

He raised his hand and lashed out violently.

Daigua instinctively raised his arm to block. Qiu froze on the spot.

He looked at his own arm, which had been blocked by Daigua. A “crack” sounded as the bone… splintered.

It broke…

Just like that, it broke…

After a moment of shock, Qiu’s face contorted in agonizing pain.

Daigua scratched his head, looking bewildered. “What’s wrong with you?”

Qiu couldn’t say a single word.

Daigua then looked at the Priest and the woman, confused. “What’s wrong?”

The two of them: “…”

After a moment, the Priest stiffly withdrew his gaze and looked upward. “It’s nothing. Let’s think about how to get out.”

They couldn’t win.

They couldn’t win at all.

Setting aside the fact that they still needed Daigua, even if they wanted to “kill the donkey once the grinding was done,” they didn’t have the ability.

All three of them leaned toward defense and evasion rather than combat.

Daigua was the only one capable of fighting.

The Priest looked at the faint light filtering down through the fissure from above, sinking into a quiet despair.
Wu Buyu asked doubtfully, “Sister Sheng, do you really think something is wrong? I didn’t sense any issues with the D3 Shelter. I just used Mind Reading, and everything seemed normal.”

His Mind Reading hadn’t detected anything wrong, and neither had Qi Dui.

If there was a problem, the two of them should have noticed, right?

Sheng An shook her head.

Only after a moment did she speak: “It will be easier to feel at ease once we have had a look.”
D3 had been too normal and too cooperative. In less than ten minutes, they had naturally moved past the Shelter, focusing their attention on the escaped Priest instead.

But precisely because of that, Sheng An suddenly realized something was wrong.

That mountain was closest to D3. With so many Aberrants gathered there and the need to maintain a long-term Blood Pool, they would require a massive amount of human blood… Was the nearby D3 Shelter truly as normal as it seemed?

It was already daytime by the time they returned to D3. Li Wanyun took protective suits out of her Space Ability, and the four of them put them on to avoid direct sunlight. Nowadays, direct exposure to the sun wasn’t just about getting a tan-it was lethal.

The four of them approached quietly.

Wu Buyu lowered his voice. “Are we going straight underground?”

Sheng An was examining the internal and external blueprints of D3 to determine an infiltration route. Hearing his question, she didn’t look up. “Just follow me.”

She led them around to one of D3’s emergency exits.

In the original plans, this exit was for emergency disaster relief and was rarely used. Moreover, since it was daytime and everyone was sleeping, no one should have been coming or going.

However-

Before the four could get close, they heard voices.

Not just Sheng An, but the other three frowned as well.

In the middle of the day, with the sun beating down so harshly, why would anyone be outside?

They were ordinary people from the D3 Shelter, wearing protective suits that covered them from head to toe. they were pushing several massive garbage carts toward a distant refuse pit.

Dumping trash in broad daylight?

Long Tianyu knit his brows tightly.

Sheng An listened intently to their conversation. Likely because they were wearing protective suits and there was no one else around, they were speaking quite loudly.

“Seriously, it’s always daytime when we have to dump the trash. This sun is killer.”

“Who knows what the higher-ups are thinking? Let’s just dump it and get back. Don’t linger. Several people from the previous trash detail have already died.”

“From the sun, or was it that infectious disease?”

“Who knows? Sigh, the Shelter hasn’t been safe lately. The infection is serious, and groups of people are being sent to the hospital… No one knows if they’re alive or dead.”

“This trash is so heavy. What’s even in here?”

“Looks like it’s from the hospital. Stop looking and let’s get back. I don’t want to die.”

…

Anxious to be out in the daylight, they were in a hurry. They simply tipped the garbage trailers into the pit and left immediately, wanting nothing more than to rush back inside.

Sheng An and the others emerged only after the workers had left.

“Dumping trash during the day… how strange,” Li Wanyun whispered, shaking her head.

Wu Buyu frowned. “There’s an infectious disease in the D3 Shelter? Why didn’t Tian Jiaming mention it?”

Sheng An jumped directly into the refuse pit and tore open one of the black garbage bags they had just dumped.

Li Wanyun looked over, and her face went pale instantly.

“Gah-” Wu Buyu nearly gagged.

Body parts!

They were severed limbs!

Sheng An frowned and pulled an extra layer of gloves over her protective suit’s hands. After a moment, she climbed back up, removed the outer gloves, and discarded them.

Suppressing her nausea, Li Wanyun looked at her with awe. “Sister Sheng, you actually examined them closely…”

Long Tianyu’s expression was equally grim. “Did you find anything?”

Sheng An replied, “The body parts have no blood.”

Instantly, the faces of the other three turned ashen.

This was related to the Aberrants!

Wu Buyu exhaled sharply. “How do we get in?”

Sheng An said, “Follow the trash collectors. We’ll have them take us in.”

Everyone was wearing protective suits that covered them completely. As long as those workers cooperated, they could be brought in easily.

As for how to make them cooperate?

Sheng An could just show her face.

The Apocalypse Special Affairs Department held absolute authority in the hearts of the people nationwide.
