Chapter 174

The D3 Shelter hospital.

The shelters were all located above ground, and the hospital was simply a separate area. Three roads led to the hospital: one for ordinary people seeking medical care, one for emergencies, and a special restricted-access lane.

The road for ordinary people led to the hospital’s main entrance.

At this moment, a crowd had gathered outside.

Someone asked, “Doctor, have I caught the infectious disease too?”

Another person voiced their concerns. “Doctor, is there any special medicine? Everyone is gathered together; if the contagion is serious, won’t we all be unable to escape? Please, think of something!”

A middle-aged woman was pleading desperately.

“Doctor, please let me go in and see Nannan. How did she catch it? I beg of you, let me go in and take care of her. Just let me see if she’s okay!”

The doctor remained cold-faced. “The contagion is severe. Entering means you could be infected at any moment. The hospital can’t hold so many people. No one is allowed inside except for the patients.”

With that, he turned to leave.

The woman lunged forward and grabbed his leg, sobbing.

“On the day of the Apocalypse, my husband turned into an Aberrant. He chose to tie himself up beforehand rather than hurt Nannan. Later, Nannan’s grandparents died from the infection. Nannan is all I have left! Let me in. I’m not afraid of getting sick. Just let me have one look, so I know if my Nannan is alive or dead!”

She looked like a middle-aged woman, but it was clear that worry and grief had prematurely turned her hair white at the temples.

The doctor shook her off, showing no mercy. “No.”

A young man suddenly burst out from the crowd, roaring, “There’s something wrong! There’s definitely something wrong with this hospital! Nobody dies from that ‘infectious disease’ outside, but as soon as they enter the hospital, they start dying one after another. They won’t let families visit, and they don’t even tell us if people are alive or dead. They just wait a while and then post a death list! We don’t even see the bodies! They’re definitely hiding something!”

The mother had suspected this for a long time.

She scrambled up, her face haggard, and shouted in despair, “Yes! Something is wrong! There’s something wrong with your hospital!”

The doctor’s expression shifted.

At that moment, Tian Jiaming walked out from inside.

He was wearing a hazmat suit, his features obscured. His voice carried a tone of practiced sorrow.

“This contagion is very serious. I have already contacted the Jing City Base. Rest assured, we will definitely find a solution.

“This lady and this young man want to see their family? You must understand that you might get infected if you go in. We are doing this for your own safety.

“The mortality rate is indeed not low, but many people have been cured and discharged. Please be patient and wait for them to return home in good health. The hospital truly cannot accommodate everyone.”

Since the head of the Shelter had personally appeared, most people sighed and chose to go back and wait.

After all, quite a few people had indeed walked out of the hospital alive and healthy during this period.

The woman didn’t hesitate. “I want to see Nannan.”

The young man, however, remained deeply suspicious.

Tian Jiaming said gently, “If that’s the case, then let them in to see their family. If you get infected…”

“It doesn’t matter! I’ll take full responsibility!” the woman said urgently.

And so, the two were led inside.

The interior of the hospital was completely different from what they had imagined. The people inside… weren’t even wearing hazmat suits!

The young man’s pupils constricted as he realized something was wrong.

The woman was still fixated. “I want to see Nannan…”

Tian Jiaming dropped his gentle facade instantly. Without even glancing at the two, he signaled for his men to take them away.

A nurse smiled strangely, her expression twisted. “Come on. I’ll take you to see your family.”

The woman followed cooperatively.

The young man turned to run. “Help! There’s something wrong with the hosp-mmph!”

His voice cut off abruptly as someone covered his mouth and dragged him away.

Meanwhile, Tian Jiaming entered another room.

This room was also filled with blood, but it was slightly cleaner. The blood was contained within a glass tank, inside of which a Meteorite Fragment was submerged.

Two other high-ranking officials from the Shelter were standing nearby, their eyes glazed and staring blankly.

A “doctor” stood directly in front of them, swinging a pendant back and forth.

Soon, the light of clarity returned to their eyes.

The doctor stopped, and the two men took a deep breath, both breaking into smiles.

“Finally, we’ve managed to deal with those pests from the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department.”
“Exactly. Between Mind Reading and King’s Anchor, if not for Ling’s ability, we might not have been able to hide it from them.”

The two of them stood up.

“Tian Jiaming” stood beside the glass vat and took a deep breath, his expression one of pure intoxication.

He then asked, “Ling, what’s the situation now? How many companions do we have in this batch?”

Ling replied, “The success rate has reached seventy percent. Most will become companions rather than Superpower Users. You’re still sending too few people; there isn’t enough blood. I need more!”

Tian Jiaming smiled. “No problem. Before, we were afraid someone would notice something was wrong and tip off the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department. Now that they’ve left, we can officially begin the large-scale ‘Divine Descent.'”

Ling expressed her regret. “It’s a pity most of the Energy Sources were given to the Apocalypse Special Affairs Department. We only have five Fragments left… It’s too few.”

Tian Jiaming’s smile faded. “We had no choice. We had to get them to leave as quickly as possible without suspecting us. We’ll use the five for now and continue collecting more.”

His expression turned cold. Damn it, that Apocalypse Special Affairs Department had taken away too many Energy Sources…

Ling finally nodded in agreement.
Meanwhile.

A youth was dragged into a room. The floor was covered in blood, littered with severed limbs and remains. The stench of gore was overpowering, enough to drive anyone to despair.

The youth, named Zhang Changxiu, stared wide-eyed, struggling desperately.

There really was something wrong with this hospital!

His eyes were filled with hopelessness. He wasn’t afraid to die; he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to get the word out. He didn’t know how many more people would suffer…

Damn it!

These people were monsters!

“Let me go!” he continued to struggle.

The nurse barked, “Being allowed to participate in the ‘Divine Descent’ is an honor! It gives you the chance to become one of our companions. If you keep struggling, I’ll just drain your blood and turn you into food!”

Zhang Changxiu froze.

Slowly, he stopped struggling.

The nurse led him inside. There was a similar glass vat containing a Fragment soaking in blood. Countless people lay scattered across the floor, every one of them writhing in agony.

Several others stood nearby, looking down at the people on the floor as if they were nothing more than food…

Just then, one person bolted upright.

A man standing nearby looked somewhat disappointed. “Oh, it’s a companion.”

The person wiped the corner of their mouth and stood up. Their eyes and expression were completely different from the pain they had shown moments ago, as if they were a different person entirely.

Meanwhile, another person on the floor suddenly burst into flames, their body radiating intense heat.

Everyone turned to look at him, their eyes full of anticipation.

After a moment, as if confirming something, they all lunged forward together.

The man who had just sat up was the closest. He was the first to seize the Fire Ability User by the neck, laughing maniacally. “Hahaha! A Superpower User! Such fragrant blood!”

Another cursed, “Damn it, you beat me to it! I want his blood too, save some for me!”

…

Zhang Changxiu’s breath hitched.

The nurse had already scooped a bowl of blood from the glass vat containing the Fragment and held it out for him to drink.

He refused.

The nurse sneered. “If you don’t drink it, you’ll just end up as food…”

Zhang Changxiu’s hands trembled as he took the bowl and brought it to his lips.

Then, he suddenly hurled it at the nurse and turned to bolt.

He would rather die than become a Monster that turned its blade on its own kind!

“You’re asking for death!”

The nurse was incredibly fast, catching up to him in an instant. She reached out to snap his neck.

Zhang Changxiu closed his eyes.
Thud!*
Thud! Thud!!*

The sounds of bodies hitting the floor echoed around him. The hand gripping his neck slowly loosened.

Zhang Changxiu was stunned.

He opened his eyes in a daze to see four people standing before him. They had appeared silently, and in the blink of an eye, they had dealt with everyone standing in the room except for him.

Li Wanyun and Long Tianyu looked grim.

Wu Buyu pursed his lips and said slowly, “D3 isn’t ‘orderly’ at all… there are just too many Aberrants.”

They had walked straight into an Aberrant’s nest!

Sheng An’s eyes were icy as she uttered a single word:

“Kill.”
